Schodack Board faces June vote on football and budget cuts

Schodack Central School Board discussed a June ballot on reinstating interscholastic football after last year’s rejection. A Moms and Dads Club formed to raise 5000 for the team. The board also voted to cut back the Spanish teaching position and adjust first grade classes based on enrollment, with possible four-class return if enrollment rises. May 11 agenda includes a decision on applying for federal funds to renovate Castleton tennis courts with an 8000 grant offset and 5000 resurfacing cost estimates.

Bicycle safety rodeo held for Eagle Award project

A Sunday 3 p.m. bicycle safety rodeo at St. Edward's Church parking lot in Clifton Park centers on a Boy Scout Eagle Award project by Daniel Keating. Activities include bicycle safety inspection, minor repairs, and a rodeo for riders who pass tests with State Police demonstrations on safe highway cycling and bike ownership verification.

Averill Park Teen Indicted on 11 Counts

Timothy T. Williams, 16, of Averill Park, was indicted by a Rensselaer County Grand Jury on 11 charges after a string of break-ins in Averill Park and Poestenkill. The counts include five third degree burglary, four criminal mischief, and two petty larceny. The alleged incidents involved the Averill Park Market and Variety Store, Algonquin Middle School, and three break-ins at Averill Park High School.

Speigletown Man Re-indicted by Jury

A 26 year old Speigletown man Ricky E. Fillion was re indicted by a Rensselaer County Grand Jury on a dozen charges from a Schaghticoke motorized case last year. The April 15 dismissal due to improper grand jury advisement allowed resubmission. Charges include second degree assault first degree reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. Fillion remains jailed in Troy.

Double death by own action probed in Albany

Albany County Coroner James Reecer probes a double death by own action at 582 Park Ave Albany. Richard Rasche 20 and Marcia 19 found with empty valium bottles and a personal note. Autopsies done but results pending. The couple, long troubled, married in January after meeting as Hudson River Psychiatric Center patients.
