4-Hers donate eyeglasses to Eyes for the Needy drive

Castleton Busy Beavers 4-H Club met on April 7 learning 83 eyeglasses were donated to the Albany Association of the Blind for Eyes for the Needy. The next meeting is May 12 at 3 p.m. at the Pease home with plans for late spring and summer activities.

Albany policeman’s dime theft conviction overturned

The 1975 Albany Police Department veteran John L. Murdick Jr was convicted of petty larceny and official misconduct for stealing city meter dimes. The state Appellate Division voided the conviction citing insufficient proof that the dimes were stolen, with two judges dissenting.

Genet Middle School to Host Empire State Theater Workshop

Genet Middle School in East Greenbush will host a week of workshops and performances by the Empire State Youth Theater Institute. Holy Spirit School students and teachers join a program organized by the East Greenbush Theater Committee at no cost to taxpayers. Events run April 26 to 29 with multiple workshops and two community performances of The Miracle Worker and The Wizard of Oz, including a Friday night Wizard of Oz show open to the public.

Teens Charged With Loitering After Moreau Wooded Arrest

Nineteen youths were charged with loitering for the purpose of unlawfully using or possessing a controlled substance after a sheriff’s department raid in a wooded area on Tanglewood Drive in Moreau. Bail amounts ranged from 250 to 1,000 dollars. several youths were released to Moreau Town Court for future appearances.

Emergency landing forces precautionary alert near Albany

An Allegheny jet diverted to Albany County Airport due to hydraulic problems while en route from Buffalo to Montreal. The flight landed safely at about 11 a.m. and 27 passengers were moved to another Montreal flight at 12:41 p.m. Local crews responded to the precaution.

Kiwanis to give CB radio to police

Albany Kiwanis Club will present a Citizens Band radio to the Albany Police Department at its National Radio Week meeting.
