East Greenbush Nassau Kiwanis Club holds its annual pancake day May 8 to 2 30 at Howard L Goff Middle School Gilligan Road East Greenbush. The event funds scholarships at Columbia High School awarding two 500 totals split 300 first year 200 second year since 1970.
Six nuns from St. Joseph's Castleton were hospitalized after a collision on I-90 near exit 9. Sister M. E. Czelusniak drove east attempting to pass a bus when the car went out of control, flipped, and landed on its roof in the westbound passing lane. Mountaineer bus occupants uninjured. Accident under investigation.
The Historical Society of Esquatak presents its second antique show April 23 24 at Donald P Sutherland School Nassau with 30 plus dealers. Berkshire County Jail remains locked down after a weekend riot by inmates described as troublemakers. Sheriff John D. Courtney said charges will be filed against some prisoners involved as about 85 inmates stay under guard. Police aided the response to window smashing and debris hurling, with about 60 officers assisting and an estimated 4,000 damage.
A state Supreme Court hearing on closing the Wilton Correctional Facility was postponed indefinitely while awaiting a draft environmental impact statement. The statement, due in May, will assess effects of establishing the 250 inmate prison on the Mount McGregor site, with a public hearing to follow.
