Sticky soil conditions guide garden spading timing
The guide explains soil texture checks using a damp ball test to decide when to plow or spade. It emphasizes not working overly wet soil, spacing a garden near four to five tenths by fifty feet, and estimates 10 to 12 hours of spading for a 50 by 8 to 10 foot plot.
Onions from Sets Guide For Amateur Gardeners
For mature dry onions use small sets planted shallow so only the sets are covered. Early planting beats late sowing. For green onions use larger sets about an inch in diameter that grow quickly. Plant green sets at least two inches deep for crisper tender results. About 20 pounds of large onions per quart of small sets. Plant sets every ten days for succession. Next: Starting Beets.
