Ford Workers Eligible For Jobless Pay After River Rouge Strike

The Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board ruled that about 376 workers at Ford Motor Co’s Green Island plant were not kept from employment by a local strike. The decision reverses a referee, finding the local workers did not lose their jobs due to a local dispute and that benefits should be available. The Ford company may appeal to the Appellate Division. The Green Island plant shut from May 6 to June 1, 1949, amid River Rouge plant actions.
