Tidal Wave Devastates Ililo and Hawaii Coasts
An account from the Honolulu advertiser describes a May 10 tidal surge at Ililo and Walken, with roofs exposed at dawn and waves reaching up to 16 feet. Several structures were swept away, fires started, and victims rescued by whalers. Eyewitness reports detail dramatic water rises, damaged wharves, and a hospital inundated. Volcanic activity near Milan cabin is noted with rumbling earthquakes and lava jets.
