Imposter General Mebert Baffles Troy Citizens

The Troy newspaper recounts the hoax of Gen Robert Mebert an alleged Civil War general who toured Clark township and Troy. An urban legend surfaced as dozens of locals and St Louis county men welcomed him until investigators proved he was an impostor named J Hebert also called Louis Hebert. Sheriff and court cleared him after testimonies from Gen Cockrell Col Kelley and others. A Mason lodge alert warned lookouts to beware of the traveler impostor.
