Fred Oehlschlager 68, a farmer seven miles east of Tripoli, died from spinal injuries after a car crash caused by loose gravel. He was driven by Mrs. Oehlschlager, and died Saturday morning. Funeral services were held at Spring Fountain Lutheran church with burial in Spring Fountain cemetery. Survived by widow and two children, plus one brother Will NW of Tripoli. Oehlschlager formerly owned the local farm now occupied by the Kelling family and was a stockholder and director in Tripoli Hardware Co.
A special meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary held at the Legion hall on Tuesday evening September 22 elected officers for 1932. Twenty members attended. officers include Emma Warner president LaVera Fink vice president Dorothy Claus secretary Hertha Morf treasurer Clara Claus historian Hilda Diekman chaplain Evad Henning sergeant at arms and executive board Millie Goodenbour Sarah Ambrose Emma Kelsey. An auditing committee of Nora Peacock Bertha Debel and Pearl Buechele was formed. Also planned was a home talent play The Bachelor’s Escapade for October 12 and 13 and purchase of a unit emblem. A luncheon followed hosted by Mrs. W. H. Monson Mrs. William Sell and Mrs. Carl Kroll.
On Tuesday September 22 Mrs. Charlotte Harmening marked her 82nd birthday with family from Sumner Waterloo and the local city. Guests included sister Sophia Buhr daughter Ed Ehlert and husband Henry Tegemeier sr and their son John Tegemeier plus daughter Chris Winning and her husband F H Harmening. A birthday cake from Mrs Winning and Mrs Harmening graced the center. Mrs. Harmening, a long-time Trioli resident, remains active and lives alone managing her own housekeeping.
Church Notes by E Forrest Byers lists Sunday school at 9:00, morning worship at 10:00 with the sermon topic Neutrality or the Sin of Neglect, Christian Endeavor at 7:45 led by Leona Schrader on Events Planned for the Coming Year, and choir practice at 7:45 Thursday evening.
St. John’s Lutheran led by Pastor A. Hanff holds Sunday school at 9:00 a m and a German service at 10:00 a m. Junior choir meets Thursday at 7 p m and senior choir at 8 p m.
St Peter s Evangelical holds a Sunday schedule with services at 9 10 and 7 30 pm for annual harvest festival. Teachers meeting Monday evening choir practice Friday and Tuesday for mixed choir. On Sunday October 4 mission festival services are set with morning afternoon and evening worship. Irene Oleson spent Saturday in Waterloo with Jessie Hoshaw for a birthday observance.
The seventh annual Tegtmeier relatives reunion gathered at Sumner city park on Sunday September 20 with 140 attendees. Attendees came from Fairbank Waterloo Elma Oelwein Dunkerton Cedar Falls Readlyn Denver Sumner and Tripoli. The 82 year old Charlotte Harmening and two month old Arnold Doepke were noted as oldest and youngest present. The eighth annual meeting is set for the last Sunday in June 1932 with organizers John Sehwake Elma Julius Mixdorf Waterloo.
Bremer county tax reduction committee meets in Plainfield on Monday evening September 8 to discuss taxation and governmental expenses. Drainage and county expenses panel led by L C Warneke and H J Stumme will report, with Readlyn set as next meeting site on October 26 and Readlyn as a future location. Members include Lee O Peacock Tripoli chairman Harry Ammann Waverly secretary EB Heyer Sumner W W Taylor Plainfield and L C Warneke Readlyn.
Father J J Costelloe of Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner Iowa arrived Saturday after a three month stay in Ireland. He was joined by Father William Mahessy of Woodbine as his guest until Tuesday. Costelloe reports optimism about Ireland's economy noting a functioning Free State government and low unemployment outside shipyards while hydro electric power fuels rapid industrial progress. He has visited Ireland twice since 1926 and described the return voyage as largely ideal aside from two stormy days.
The General States Power and Light Corporation announces a roughly ten percent reduction in lighting and power rates for the territory. The October schedule lowers light rates to 10c for 25 kWh, 9c for the next 25, 8c for 100. minimum remains $1.00. Power rates start at 7c per kWh with 400 kWh at 5c and next 400 at 4c down to 3c. Refrigerator and heat minimum drops to $2.50 from $3.00. combined heat and refrigeration minimum falls to $4.50 from $5.00. optional contract minimum lowered from $4.95 to $4.45.
Sunday marked the twenty fifth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Henry Matthiesen. No public celebration was planned yet friends Rudolph Ludwig and nearby neighbors stopped by for an evening of cards and a light luncheon hosted by the couple.
The Rev and Mrs W Lewinske of Pocahontas Iowa visited the Rev E A Hanff home last week.

Governor Turner rushes back to Cedar County to direct actions as talks turn to a government loan plan proposed by Burton Sweet to help farmers tide over high loan rates and foreclosures.
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Kuker and Mr. and Mrs. August Meyer travel by auto to Chicago for a couple of days. Mr. Kuker plans to buy fall and winter merchandise for the Tripoli Mercantile Company while the others visit relatives in Chicago and vicinity.
The St. John s congregation at Crane Creek will hold its annual mission festival next Sunday September 27 with services at 10 am and 2 pm Speakers will be Rev Siefkes of Shellrock and Rev Raum of Plainfield Mission festival in Crane Creek hosted by pastor J F Dilges includes two devotional sessions and guest ministers
Locals beat Plainfield 5 to 2 Sunday afternoon as Tri Poli tallied three runs in the third and two in the sixth. Plainfield scored in the fourth and seventh. Krueger struck out two, Homan one, and Smith two for Plainfield. Vanderlinden led with three hits in four at bats.
The second annual Heise Tegtmeier relatives reunion took place at Waverly tourist park on September 20 with a picnic dinner. Ninety eight attended. Lena Heise aged 69 was the eldest and Alice Litauer, two months, the youngest. Members traveled from Clarksville Nashua Readlyn Tripoli and other towns to gathered families headed by Heise and Tegtmeier clans. The 1932 meeting is planned for late June at Waverly park with a committee led by Eichmann Towne and several Clarksville Tripoli and Readlyn members.
Readlyn special report. Fred Koschmeder and Miss August Berger were married Sunday at 4 pm in Zion Lutheran church with Rev. H A Schultz officiating. Attendants were Viola Koschmeder and Clarence Berger. ushers Fred Berger and Walter Boedeker. Flower girl Lois Goodermond wore yellow crepe and carried rose petals. Bride wore brocaded net over pink satin with pink rose bouquet and silver head band. maid wore yellow georgette crepe with yellow rose arm bouquet. A 6:30 dinner followed at Ed Berger home. Mrs. Koschmeder is Ed Berger’s daughter. Koschmeder is son of Charles Koschmeder. They plan to reside in Readlyn.
Paving on highway 59 for three miles north of its intersection with No. 10 in Beremer county is nearly finished by Bryant Paving Co of Waterloo, weather permitting, with nine tenths of a mile left. Rain has delayed work for 10 days and no progress since Tuesday. The stretch is one of three detours in district No. 7 of the Iowa state highway commission. A short detour for an overhead crossing on highway 55 near Dubuque remains until Saturday. Grading on highway 187 is not expected to finish this year.
Mr and Mrs Harry Buhr honored the host with a Sunday gathering at their home to mark his twenty fourth birthday on September 20 Guests included his parents Mr and Mrs H H Buhr of this city Mr and Mrs John Henning and Mildred of Frederika Mr and Mrs W H Warner and family of this place Mr and Mrs Herman Buhr Elmer and Edna of Hawkeye plus Mr and Mrs Henry Kasemeier Hulda Kasemeier and Mr and Mrs J C Kasemeier of near Sumner They attended afternoon and supper events together with other friends.
Clark Baskins, 69, died at Mercy Hospital Wednesday from a paralytic stroke suffered days earlier. A longtime resident and horse trader, he recently moved from this city to Minneapolis, planned to enter the Odd Fellows Home, and was visiting relatives when stricken. Survived by two sisters, a brother, and two cousins. funeral held at Koch Funeral chapel with burial in Harlington Cemetery.
Miss Mary Harrington and Richard Babcock were married at St Marys Catholic parsonage on Saturday evening September 19. Rev Father Collins officiated with Miss Ruth Harrington and William Hennings as attendants. A Waterloo supper followed and they plan a weeklong trip before living with the groom's mother.
At the term court Bremer county bar association meeting doctors were guests of the evening. Attendees included Judge J. J. Clark Lloyd Tait Atty L C Martin Cedar Falls Prof A Swenson and city physicians Drs Rohlf Kern Groening Sparks Robinson Osin cup F J Epeneter Denver A W Stegeman Tripoli. Burton E Sweet gave the welcome and Rohlf spoke for the doctors with Swenson delivering an address on chemistry as applied to life. Judge Clark also spoke briefly.

Installation will be at the October meeting by Dorothy Gernsey past third district committeewoman.
Mr and Mrs W A Remington who have made this city their home for thirty years left Saturday for Mauston Wisconsin leaving friends and neighbors to wish them well in their new plans and future home in the Badger State.
