Readlyn Firefighters Endure Busy Saturday
Readlyn firefighters faced a hectic day starting at 6 40 a m when an oil burner exploded at the Kuhlmann home southwest of Readlyn. They also aided a brush blaze in the Wapsi timber, and helped quell a tractor fire near the Arnold Jesse farm with quick action limiting damage.

Mrs Harmening Home Damaged By Fire In Tripoli
The Tripoli Fire Department answered a Sunday evening alarm about 8:15 after Mrs Mary Harmening and her son Henry returned from visiting relatives to find dense smoke in the basement home. Firefighters battled the blaze centered in an unholstered chair, burning rugs and extensive interior smoke damage. Fire Chief Howard Holm could not determine an exact cause.

Emma Platte 80 died Sunday at Waverly Convalescent Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p m Wednesday at Kaiser Funeral Home Waverly with burial in Harlington cemetery. Survived by daughter Mrs Sarah Geweke of Waverly and six sons Carl Otto Louis Fred Arnold and Elmer of nearby towns.

Louise Stenzel Dies and Burial in Tripoli Sunday
Louise M. Stenzel aged 78 died Friday and was buried Sunday afternoon in Fremont. Funeral services were at Rettig Funeral Home with Rev. Lester E. Gatch officiating. Casket bearers were Edward Bennett James Bennett J P Snelling Edwin Leege Roy Christiansen and M W Bennett. She suffered a stroke two weeks earlier and lived at 208 Maryland Waterloo until six weeks ago when she moved in with her sister Mrs Eva Bennett. Tripoli is her lone survivor.

Seven cars were involved in a chain reaction on Highway 3 near Knitfel at a narrow bridge, causing over $1000 in damage. Thelma Taylor 58 formerly of Frederika died at Woodlawn Convalescent Home Waterloo on Sunday morning from a stroke. Born May 4 1897 in Sumner she was the daughter of Henry and Lena Bergmann.
