Residents of Lenind plan a Candidates Night Sunday October 26 at 7 p m in the town hall. Voters may ask questions as candidates seek to introduce themselves. Coffee and cookies will be served after the meeting.
Clocks must be set back one hour to Central Standard Time as daylight saving ends this Sunday morning.
Agreements reached for a community youth event at Becker Hall of Science Waverly. The screening titled The Changing Concept of the Universe will be shown October 23 at 8 p.m. Reservations for 45 seats via Judy Peters. Youth meet Grace Lutheran Church parking lot at 7 30 p.m. for shared transportation.
Denver citizens will vote on November 4 to approve buying the Lahman building at State and Washington for municipal use. The council seeks facilities for equipment storage and department needs, with the current Town Hall garage repurposed for the Police Department.
Loren Bergmann entered Mercy hospital in Waverly Sunday afternoon for unlisted reasons.
The Tripoli Area Recreation Inc. board of directors established rules and regulations at a recent meeting. The rules will be made available to the membership. The board invites additional members and welcomes all regardless of race color or national origin to obtain membership and use the facilities if they follow the rules.
Tripoli JAYCEES set an October 23 dinner at 6 30 p.m. in the VFW room with Roger Poppen State Jaycee President as featured speaker. This is his second Tripoli engagement this year after the Bosses Night banquet in January.
The Acker Matthias American Legion Junior Auxiliary in Denver elected officers for the coming year. Lee Ann Abbas was chosen president with Lisa Griese as vice president Peggy Williams as secretary and treasurer Sandra Buhrow as chaplain Brenda Kurtt as sergeant and assistant sergeant at arms Kerry Kurtt and Jan Buenneke. The group also prepared seventy five Halloween favors for patients at the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown.
Tripoli Community Schools set a two week Christmas break. Students will be dismissed at 2 30 pm December 19 and return January 5 under superintendent Howard Marquardt guidance. Families may plan extended trips accordingly.
Richard Waller of Tripoli Community High School and Vicky Burrow of Iowa Central Community College Fort Dodge, both UNI graduates, attended the conference of beginning business teachers held there on October 17.
Campaign chairman Walter Steward announces the annual membership drive begins November 1 with a goal of 2125 dollars to support 12 health welfare and service groups. Area captains include Southeast Carl Ryan and Mrs Duane Holm Southwest Mrs Carl Asmus and Mrs Wendall Kuethe North Mrs Martin Drewis Business men Fred Fifi and Leo Towne Organizations H Fink and teachers Davey. The board aims to complete the drive by November 3.
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Kuker were saluted at a golden wedding dinner hosted by son Wm. Kuker. Attending were Tri Poli Mercantile employees where both continue active. The couple wed October 19, 1919 at St John Lutheran Spring Fountain. They have one son and three grandchildren.
Iowa's quail season runs October 25 through January 31 1970 with daily hours 8 am to 4 30 pm and a bag limit of eight with 16 in possession. The duck season is October 25 to November 23 with hours from half an hour before sunrise to sunset and a daily bag of four including at most two mallards two wood ducks one canvasback or one redhead plus five mergansers with no more than one hooded merganser. possession is double the daily bag except canvasbacks and redheads at one. Coot follows duck hours but bag is ten with 20 in possession.
September sales of Series E and H savings bonds and Freedom Shares in Bremer County totaled 41 124 dollars, contributing to a nine month county total of 350 479 dollars at 64 percent of the 1969 quota. Emmet and Ringgold lead the state at 91 percent of quota.
Two men appeared in Justice of the Peace court after being apprehended for shooting geese at the town sewage lagoon within corporate limits. They pleaded guilty and were fined $25 each for discharging firearms within the city.
Mr and Mrs Wilbert Frahm and Janis attended the wedding of Arlen Frahm and Connie Morrow at Prince of Peace Lutheran church Evansdale Saturday afternoon. The reception and dance followed at the Hookliner Club Littelton.
Public auction of the two story house at the corners of first street and third avenue SW Tripoli and its household items will start Saturday October 25 at 1:00 pm. Open for inspection Friday October 24 with a family representative present. A contract is available on the house.
LaPorte City dominates Tripoli 33-18 in non league action. Willis Hildebrandt, Danny Boeckmann, and John Fink scored for the Panthers with key pass plays including a 67 yard TD and a 43 yard setting up a score. The win leaves Tripoli scoreless in the final minutes of the game.
The annual Jaycee Hunter’s Breakfast draws tickets on sale for Saturday November 8 with prizes including an automatic rifle with scope a 410 shotgun a food blender and an AM FM clock radio Tickets are available from any Tripoli Jaycee member or at local businesses The Northeast Iowa Rock Club hosts its first annual Rock Show on Sunday October 26 from 10 am to 6 pm at the Legion Hall Sumner inviting the public.
Mr and Mrs E J Pavelee Sr celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a Sunday afternoon open house from 2 to 4 pm at their rural Tripoli home. They also note Mr Pavelee's 79th birthday on October 22.
The Iowa Highway Patrol license examining team issued 47 licenses during the Saturday morning session in the town hall. Six were chauffeurs and 41 operators, with 8 temporary driving permits and 6 instruction permits. They will return to Tripoli on Saturday November 15.
