Peoples Natural Gas will lower its residential rates by three percent starting October billings as part of a settlement of a Northern Natural Gas rate case. The move, announced by Richard Mayne, includes a $425,000 refund to Iowa customers via credits on upcoming bills.
Denver volunteers plan to canvass the town on Tuesday evening November 2 to collect donations and sell tickets for the annual Firemen’s dance. Tickets are one dollar with proceeds to buy new department equipment. The Riviera in Janesville hosts music by the Frankie Buhr Orchestra. Romayne Coontz resignation accepted. Jerry Seelhammer named replacement.
The American Legion Auxiliary met at Emma Warner’s home for October. The president announced the Mid year conference in Des Moines on November 28 and 29. Ten dollars were given to the Community Chest. Supplies for the Christmas gift shop are due by November 20 with Muriel Rosenthal in charge. One thousand poppies will be ordered. On October 28 at 10 am members will bring a sack lunch and meet at Gladys Rettig’s home to prepare Christmas seals for mailing. Rose Kuhrt and Delpha Frese helped Emma serve.
Northeast Iowa Rock Club hosts its third annual rock show October 23 24 at Sumner Legion Hall. Saturday hours 1 PM to 9 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM. Admission 25 cents with free entry for children under 12.
Rev and Mrs Erich Dornbusch attended a Friday dinner at the Riviera ballroom in Janesville honoring Mr and Mrs Art Klemp on their 50th wedding anniversary. Pastor Dornbusch and Pastor Albrecht of Readlyn spoke at the event.
St John's American Lutheran Church Crane Creek observes Laymen's Sunday on October 24 at 10:00 a.m. The sermon, Stephen the Lay-Preacher, is by pastor Geo J Gundel. Howard Marquardt Tripoli Schools superintendent plans to address the congregation.
Tripoli Post Office and American Savings Bank will observe Veterans Day on Monday October 25. Local postmaster Ray Fink says no window service or rural delivery but star routes run and mail will be placed in lock boxes with evening dispatch. Banks in Bremer County including American Savings Bank will close for the holiday.
