Iowa Voters to Decide Three Constitutional Proposals
Three proposed amendments to Iowa's constitution appear on the November 7 ballot. The measures cover Supreme Court power to discipline judges, four year terms for state officials, and the removal of the lottery ban allowing the legislature to define prohibited activities. The judge discipline proposal stems from a 1969 Iowa District Court Judges Association recommendation and would create a judicial qualifications commission. The governor and other executives would switch to four year terms starting with 1974. The bingo amendment repeals the lottery ban and assigns definition of prohibited activities to the legislature, replacing current semi legislative court and attorney general role.
