The Tripoli Leader will relocate from 204 South Main Street to a newly remodeled building this weekend. The office will close Thursday and Friday for the move and reopen Saturday at the new address.
State officials urge motorists to apply early for license plates at county treasurers with a 25 cent extra fee for mail applications. Safety Commissioner Jack Owens notes mail orders reduce lines and delays. Also reported, Wartburg College initiates forty six students into Alpha Chi Alpha Chapter with Dennis Buchholz and Lohmann among honorees at Becker Hall.
The Commercial Club sets a meeting for Monday night October 21 at seven o clock. Ladies of Faith Church of Christ will serve a meal before the program. A chess gathering follows and attendees will hear a Tripoli versus Fredericksburg football game showing.
The campaign for governor centers on Iowa finances as Gerry Rankin warned of a potential 13.2 million deficit for the year and rival Robert Ray argues the projection is biased. Comptroller Marvin Selden cites 4.9 million unencumbered balance and factors such as tax court testing and new taxed services. Ray says Selden’s figures show a slipping economy and fails to project future two-year impacts.

Support comes from major party candidates and governors candidates. Opponent Robert Naden warns annual sessions raise costs and risk school aid cuts.
Paul Franzenburg, Democratic candidate for governor, says time has rusted Iowa's criminal justice system. In an Iowa City speech he argues underfunding created time gaps between crime and arrest and between arrest and trial. He pledges top priority to improving law enforcement, from prevention to rehabilitation and court reform.
Bremer county Extension service hosts a Hobby Fair Friday October 25 from 10 a m to 9 p m at Faith United Church of Christ Educational Building Tripoli More than 30 demonstrators and exhibitors are chosen by a 29 woman committee Attendees may buy a hobby booklet and recipes enter door prize and chat over cookies and coffee The fair promotes hobby learning for all ages and notes that the extension service does not sponsor sales of hobbies
The Iowa Division of the American Cancer Society announced a living memorial program for June 3 through August 31. Living memorials honor departed individuals and funds support cancer research education and services. Bremer County notices include Minnie Dixon Don Gilmore Caroline Koch Dalton Meyer and Reaky Piegors.
Ruloff Wedeking was discharged on Thursday after a stay at Mercy hospital Waverly starting Monday. He had been hospitalized since Monday and returned home Thursday.

Rev Koengeter conducted vesper services on Wednesday week and residents and guests shared singing and visits with friends and relatives from Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly, Cresco, West Union, Westgate, Ruthven, and more across several days.

The Tri Poli Nursing Home schedules its fourth annual meeting in the Council room at Tripoli Town Hall on Monday October 21 at 8 00 p m. The public is invited.
The 1968 Christmas Seals were unveiled October 7 with families Theo Oberlieu Sumner Anker Juhl and Clarence Christopher visiting Mrs Lyle Ormston county seal chairman to count material for each worker. Seals will be mailed the second week in November.
Funeral services for Marsha Buls 22 will be at St John s Evangelical and Reformed Siegel Friday at 2:00 p m with Rev V D Weidler officiating. Burial in Harlington Cemetery Waverly. She died Monday at Mercy Hospital Waverly after a lingering illness. She was born Sept 4 1946 in Waverly and was a 1964 graduate of Waverly Shell Rock High School and 1965 Gates Business School Waterloo. She had worked as private secretary to Dr Eugene Garbee at Upper Iowa College Fayette. Survivors include her parents and a brother plus grandmothers.
Members and friends of St. Bridget's Catholic church attended the 11 o'clock mass, followed by a dinner at Immaculate Conception church in Sumner. A large attendance was present at the open house on Sunday marking the rural church's centennial.
Wapsie Valley blanked Roland 6-0 in the state softball tournament semi final at Hubbard with Mary Langholz allowing two hits as winning pitcher. Battle Creek defeated Twin Rivers of Bede 8-3 in the other semi. The championship game against Battle Creek is set for 7 30 tonight at Hubbard.
Duane C. Wedemeier aged 19 son of Mr and Mrs Howard L Wedemeier of Sumner has been promoted to Army specialist status at a posting near Hanau Germany. He serves with the 507th Heavy Maintenance Co as a cook amid overseas duties.
The Adult Fellowship of Faith United Church of Christ hosts a bake sale on Saturday October 19 at the Interstate Power Co office from 9 am to noon Proceeds go to the church furnace fund Faith church members are asked to bring baked goods before 9 30 am if possible
Turkey Valley defeated Tripoli 14-6 as the undefeated Tigers edged the Panthers on homecoming night. Dan Biesterfelt scored for Tripoli, Joe Tillman sprinted 70 yards on the kickoff, and Turkey Valley added a seven point third quarter drive to seal the win.
Glen Ladage leaves a 15 day leave from the U S Naval Base San Diego to report to Newport Rhode Island for duty on the destroyer tender Pugeot Sound. He is accompanied by his parents Mr and Mrs Arno Ladage.
