Mr and Mrs Henry Towne of Tripoli celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday October 5 with a Legion hall gathering. The event featured a program of hymns solos and a mock wedding plus dinner. The couple married October 5 1884 and have five children and many relatives listed among attendees.
Lloyd Ellis, special representative for the Town State Board of Assessment and Review, will discuss sales tax and the new net income tax at a meeting in the Tripoli opera house Thursday evening at 8 o'clock October 18. All farmers, laborers and business men are invited to attend.

Mrs. W. G. Hallett and son Leigh of Forrest City visited here and were honored at a Sunday picnic near Sweet's lake east of town. A noon dinner followed with relatives and friends present, including the Chapins, Woodcock, Kirchhoff, Carstensen, Keough, Franklin of Tripoli, Schell of Waverly, and Schrader with Estella Mae of Waterloo.
George W. Patterson of Algona republican candidate for lieutenant governor and John W. Gwynne of Waterloo republican candidate for congressman from the third district will speak Friday evening October 19 at Tripoli. It is a county wide rally announced by Leonard H. Racker Bremer county central committee chair. Quilt and Antique Exhibit by junior Auxiliary girls at Legion hall Saturday evening October 13 doors open 7 pm admission 10c.
Miss Margaret M. Kelsey of Tripoli and Burton L. Duncomb of Riceville were married Sunday afternoon October 7 at 2 in the First Congregational church. Rev. E F Byers officiated. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Archie Schrader of Waterloo. The bride wore navy blue silk crepe. She is a Tripoli High School graduate and former rural teacher. The groom is the son of Mrs Wm Duncomb of Riceville. They will reside in Riceville.
The Congregational church will hold a Rally Day program Sunday at 10 30 with a sequence of selections orchestral numbers songs devotions and recitations led by Rev E F Byers and participants including Eugene Woodcock Eunice Peacock Betty Ann Maurer Winifred Chapin Alwin Maurer Donna Peacock James Bennett Dorothy Hankner Marie Kelsey Darlyl Max Byers Jeannie Krueger Gloria Rosenthal Zenovia Henning Jimmie and Barbara Koch and others ending with benediction and a final orchestral selection.
O. J. Warneke of Readlyn was named as the Republican candidate for county recorder at Bremer county central committee. He previously served as Readlyn postmaster and led reemployment work in the county. He replaces F. V. Culbertson of Waverly, who withdrew.
Mr and Mrs Willard Clasen and son Robert from McGregor were guests Saturday and Sunday at the home of his sister Mrs E C Claus and husband Delmar Stange at the CCC camp in McGregor. They spent the weekend with his mother Mrs Nannie Stange.
Mrs. Otto F. Buenger of southwest of Tripoli won first place for her kitchen picture display on the school lunch problem at the Cattle Congress. She also earned many ribbons in textile and canned goods, notably blue for homemade soap. Des Moines judge Josephine Arnquist Bakke praised the soap carving and requested a carved soap model for club work.
Leslie Tietje of the Chicago White Sox shut out Tripoli 3 to 0 on the Sumner diamond. He fanned 18 Tripoli batters, with two hits and a walk in one inning before striking out the next three. Stanley Gehrke of Readlyn pitched well for Tripoli as about 1500 to 2000 fans watched Tietje perform.

Mrs. Fred Duecker traveled to Sumner on Tuesday to spend a few days at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Helmut Quandt, and her husband.

John F. Wirds former labor candidate for congress in the third district spoke in Tripoli with a caravan of cars. He outlined a platform calling for immediate cash payment of soldiers adjusted compensation certificates, pension for widows and orphans of ex-service men, federal old age and disability insurance, and the Frazier refinancing bill for farms and homes. He criticized the present congressman Willford for not keeping promises.
The First Bremer County Fish and Game club with over 175 members will hold a meeting at the Legion hall Friday evening October 12. Game Warden John Jago of Waterloo will discuss the farmers side of the state game management area plan and efforts to have many farmers from outlying districts attend. All farmers interested in game protection are urged to attend.
The R N A carnival will be held at the Legion hall on Thursday evening October 11 at 8 o clock. A one act play, fish pond, bingo and refreshment stands featured. A blanket will be given to the lucky name. Admission free.
Dies From Auto Injuries. Charles Hennings 17 formerly of this city died in Charles City hospital from a car wheel lock collision. He is survived by his parents four brothers and one sister.
