Chevrolet plans a big 1961 push with 20 new conventional cars nine Corvairs and the two seat Corvette. New body styling emphasizes practicality with easier access larger luggage space lower trunk load height and improved safety. Corvair line includes Lakewood and Greenbrier wagons along with revised Corvette styling and improved engine and fuel economy.
The State Agency for Surplus Property, run by the State Department of Public Instruction, accepts federal surplus property for equitable distribution to tax-exempt schools colleges public health institutes and civil defense units. It operates self funded with property consignments from the federal government and uses a state wide bulletin and centralized Des Moines warehouse to allocate items based on need and utilization.
The state highway commission will withhold road funds from state institutions until a five year construction and maintenance program for institutional roads is received. Last legislature gave road assignments to the commission and only the state board of control has submitted a plan so far, described as sketchy. Plans must be ready to fit the 1961 interstate and primary road plan.
