Duck Season Opens but Ducks Scarce in Wapsie Territory
The opening day saw more hunters than ducks with many returning empty handed while a few locals were fortunate to bag a few. Low water along the Wapsie kept ponds shallow all summer and this fall, reducing the hunting pool. If ponds don’t rise soon, duck hunting may stay poor through the weeks ahead.

Surprise 25th Anniversary Party For Meyerhoff Couple
Readlyn special. A company of about 175 relatives and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. W F Meyerhoff Sunday afternoon October 2 in Wolf hall to honor their 25th wedding anniversary. Rev Theo Frese spoke on Psalm 116 verses 12 and 17. The bridesmaids and best men from 25 years ago returned as Mr and Mrs Edward Meyerhoff Mrs William Huebner and William Brockman. A 5 PM supper followed a 1:30 PM arrival. Out of town guests included several Meyerhoff relatives from Waterloo Waverly Dunkerton Lawden and other towns. The celebration featured flowers, a wedding cake arch with 25th anniversary date, gifts including a floor lamp, and dancing and visiting. Lunch was served late.

The trial of E. H. Martin, A. G. Kampmeier and John H. Mueller, former Tripoli bankers, is scheduled for October 17 in Osage district court. An indictment charging conspiracy was returned by a Bremer county grand jury. Venue was changed due to alleged prejudice from post indictment newspaper coverage. Two families in auto crash with minor injuries
Mr and Mrs Carl Black, their daughter and son in law with grandchild and Mr and Mrs Pickard and Marjorie were in a single car accident on a narrow road last week. The vehicle left the road and fell six feet but only the little girl sustained a broken collar bone along with cuts and bruises. All other passengers escaped serious harm as glass broke on one side and the windshield shattered.
