Henry Eggena of Jefferson township won first place in Bremer county corn husking contest at the Luloff Brothers farm west of Waverly on Monday October 30 picking 1501.2 pounds net in 1 hour 20 minutes. Alfred Mueller was second and Marshall Johnson third with further place listings and deductions noted. A crowd of about one thousand watched as teams and officials conducted the event with praise for cooperation and the weathered field.

The Iowa fish and game commission released hunting rules allowing pheasant shooting on specific November 1933 dates in listed counties north and south of Federal Highway 18. Bremer special reports that the Ducker Bros general store was entered and robbed of 275 dollars Thursday night. Entry was gained via a warehouse window after removing a screen left open for ventilation. Robbers aimed for cash, using a key on the register. little else was taken. The Spahn and Rose office safe was opened with less than five dollars stolen.

Sale of Tripoli State Bank Assets Totals $441
Remaining assets of the Tripoli State Bank were sold at public auction for 441 dollars in this city. Bills receivable totaled about 105,000 dollars, while real estate including two town lots and a lot east of Miller Implement Co. went to the Town of Tripoli for 140 dollars. A. H. Panzer bought the balance of notes and misc items for 301 dollars. Additional real estate near the river and a Moehling house and lot sold in Waverly for 400 dollars. Windup operations, three years ongoing, conclude with final dividend checks mailed in November.

A. A. Grossmann Dies at Waverly 1933
A. A. Grossmann longtime Bremer County resident died at his Waverly home Sunday after a three year illness. Born May 25 1852 at St Sebold Clayton County he became a bookkeeper for Wartburg Publishing then owned the Waverly Phoenix. He served as secretary of the Lutheran Mutual Aid Society and long led the State Bank of Waverly. Funeral Tuesday at Koch funeral home with burial in Harlington cemetery.

Masquerade Dance Draws Large Crowd in Tripoli Opera House

Barn Fire Destroys Hirsch Farm Structure and Calves
A large barn on the Chris Hirsch farm in Polk township burned last Friday afternoon. Seven calves perished in the blaze along with several tons of hay. Sparks from the fire also ignited corn stalks in a neighboring field owned by Then Shipp across the road.

Victim of Pneumonia Nora Donovan Dies at 87
Mrs Nora Donovan 87 lifelong Bremer county resident died at her home after a week with pneumonia. Born in Ireland she came to the United States as a child. Survived by six daughters and two sons, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral Tuesday at St Marys Catholic church with burial in St Marys cemetery beside her husband.

Suit Against Waterloo Construction Dismissed
The case of Lucille Albrecht, 11, injured in an auto crash two years ago, against Waterloo Construction was dismissed by Judge Wood after a directed verdict. The driver of the other car was found not to have maintained the assured clear distance ahead. Suit sought $15,000. Sager and Sweet and H. L. Leslie represented the plaintiff.

Death of Herbert Long in Minnesota Car Crash
Herbert Long of Iowa City, a former Waverly boy, died from internal injuries after a car carrying four men to watch the Iowa Minnesota football game left the road near Red Wing Minnesota. Frank Smith died at the scene while Long died later in hospital. The other two passengers were badly injured.
