County Road Building Program Draws Massive Bid Call
Bremer county launches the largest road program in a single year with bids due June 2 at 10 a.m. to County Engineer Earl Welshons for 117 miles of western and eastern secondary roads, using 42 185 tons of class A rock and 5 500 tons of class A stone plus a $2 000 bid bond. A May 29 public letting at Ames will set bids to blacktop eight miles from Waverly to Horton and four miles on Buck Creek road north of Highway 93.

Katharina Niemeyer Dies at 83 in Memorial Service
Funeral services for Katharina Niemeyer 83 were held at Rettig Funeral Home and Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Arnold Thalacker in charge. Burial followed at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery Buck Creek. She died Saturday at Sumner Community Hospital after a year of illness, survived by son Henry in Waterloo, brother Herman of Tripoli, sister Clara Sell of Sumner, grandson Walter in Los Angeles and two great grandchildren.

Crepe memorial flowers are handmade by disabled Iowa veterans at Des Moines Veterans Hospital Clinton Domiciliary and Iowa Soldiers Home Marshalltown. Opening date for walleye and northern pike fishing was Saturday north of Highway 30 in Iowa. Local anglers reported solid catches on opening day despite high water on the Wapsi.
