Elmer Wilharm Named President of Community Chest

Elmer Wilharm was elected first permanent president of Tripoli Community Chest at a board meeting Monday. He had served as temporary president since the organization formed last fall. New officers include William A. Kuker vice president Alice Krueger treasurer and Mrs Les Lauck secretary. Committees named with chairpersons for fund campaign judging admissions publicity auditing and more will operate for one year.

Reseal program on farm stored oats extends loans

Bremer county voters read that a reseal program for 1954 oats is in effect through April 30, 1956. James Eveland chairs the ASC committee and notes 3 percent interest and storage payments with pro rated handling for early payoff. As of Feb 15, 22,347 bushels are pledged under farm storage loans. applications required before the 1954 crop loan maturity.

Bremer county district court near term to begin Monday presided by Judge C. H. Wild Allison. Two Specialists To Hold Dairy Meeting Here

Bremer County extension service sponsors a dairy meeting at Tri Poli Town hall on March 24 at 8 p.m. Extension dairyman Donald Voelker will discuss marketing problems and ways to reduce labor costs which account for about 30 percent of milk production. The meeting covers new marketing problems in recent weeks and invites all Bremer county dairying residents to attend.

Tripoli 4-H Club Hosts Crane Representative Talk

The Tri poli Boosters 4-H club met at the Crane Creek church basement with Jim Fuchs and Gary Stromer as hosts. Twenty-one members two leaders and four visitors attended. Cresco Doane Agricultural Service representative Jim Moen spoke showing slides of pole type labor-saving buildings and a model farm with modern facilities. The month included basketball in Readlyn gym and a postponed game with the Maxfield Rangers due to the state tournament.

Tripoli sees a temporary warm spell vanish under cloudy skies and a new cold wind. Temperatures dipped below freezing Tuesday morning, then warmed, before falling again at night. First spring rains totaled 0.39 inches, with sun and wind aiding ground drying. Local resident chatter of spring fever and fishing optimism contrasts with forecasts of several days of cold, unsettled weather. Weather data tracked daily extremes through the week.

The Tri poli Post Office has renewed its lease for another five years. Congressman H. R. Gross informed The Leader last Thursday. The department sought larger quarters locally but received no response.

George L. Williams 60 of Elcho Wisconsin died March 3 in an auto accident while returning from a sales meeting in Clinton. He was husband of former Tripoli resident Josephine Krull. Ko One Injured In Crash On Sunday South Of Tripoli

A Sunday night collision three miles south of Tripoli caused $700 to $800 in damage. A 1954 Ford driven by Henry Schlichting of Tripoli met a 1950 Ford driven by Thomas Price Jr. of Tripoli. The cars sideswiped as they passed. Price’s car went into a ditch but did not roll over. No serious injuries were reported.

Bremer county total for January February 1955 tied at 353062 dollars about 26.84 percent of its quota. Iowa two month sales reached 39056989 dollars or 24 percent of the annual quota with 52 counties above state average led by Mitchell county at nearly 40 percent. Purchases rose over 1954 by over 3500000 dollars with surrounding counties Butler Chickasaw and Fayette reporting substantial figures.

Local School Elections Proceed With Broad Yet Light Turnout

Last Monday in the area school elections followed form with incumbents and candidates elected. In Tripoli 38 ballots favored J. M. Snyder for a three year director term. Frederika chose Lawrence Bockhaus to a three year seat succeeding Martha Rewoldt who did not seek reelection. Bremer County results showed Wm. E. Mueller leading Henry Lau for a member-at-large, Readlyn elected a full board with multiple two and three year terms, Denver reported all candidates elected with 46 votes, and new officers included Alvin Sassmann Elmer Schumacher and Lorenz Doepke as treasurer.
