Tripoli Town Council met Monday evening with the county engineer to approve stage two of a two stage road project from Main to the town limits. They also voted to place a four year term council member election plan on a public ballot and invited sealed bids by April 1 for Chapin Park restroom building.
Dave Cox former SCI football star is named head football coach at Wapsie Valley for next year succeeding Duane Waters. He will also coach assistant basketball and baseball and teach world history and physical education. Cox is SCI graduate of 1963 with three seasons as Panthers quarterback and two All North Central honors, plus two seasons as Panther baseball second baseman.
Six residents of Tripoli were fined for disturbing the peace in Justice of the Peace J. M. Haydon's court during February. Each defendant paid a $25 fine plus costs. Named in the docket were Claire Duecker, Gene Colburn, Gary Bennett, Mark Block, LeRoy Beevers and Larry Schneer. No state cases were recorded.
Tripoli High School track opens Saturday with a dual meet against English Valley at Coe College fieldhouse. The Panthers, defending Cedar-Wapsie conference champs, aim to extend their four-year league title run as 28 boys train, eight seniors leading a 12 returning lettermen. Co-captains are Darrel Hinrichs, Steve Dettmer, and Dennis Dettmer.
Tripoli volunteer firefighters were called to Henry Mahlzan farm north of Tripoli at 8:45 this morning. The blaze started from an overheated chimney, burned into the walls, but damage was not extensive.
Tripoli Commercial Club schedules its regular meeting for March 15 at Town Hall. Dinner served at 7 by Faith United Church of Christ ladies. Annual Developn meeting and corporate session follow. reservations requested.
Mrs. Ed Weihe is recovering from major surgery performed Saturday at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Her room number is 241.
About 500 people attended Tripoli High School gymnasium benefit games to raise funds for the athletic department. Proceeds, including advance ticket sales, totaled $251.30 and will buy uniforms and equipment for basketball and other sports.
The Bremer County Mutual Insurance Association will hold its 90th annual meeting at Tripoli Town Hall on March 13 starting at 1 pm. Election of officers is on the agenda. President is Wobbeking and Russell Walther serves as secretary.
Denver Board of Education offered contracts to all present teachers for 1965-66 and approved hiring a half time kindergarten teacher and a full time high school staff member to cut high school social studies classes. Make-up days are May 25 and 26 with last day May 26. May 27 is workday for conferences. The board circulates a petition for a $127,000 bond for a new elementary school and 10 classroom addition plans, with attorney prep underway for bond issue in May.

The Iowa Nurses Association fourth district and the Iowa Division of the American Cancer Society sponsor a one day Cancer Nursing Conference in Waterloo on March 16. Nurses from Black Hawk Bremer Buchanan Butler Chickasaw Fayette Grundy Howard and Winneshiek counties may attend by advance reservation only. Reservations are to be sent to American Cancer Society Iowa Division Box 980 Mason City Iowa.
The 1965 yearbook staff at Wapsie Valley High School has been chosen with Dianna Stumme and Ronald Moeiler as co editors. Jerry Van Daele and Sharon Binsberg will be assistant co editors and editors in 1966. Other staff members include Bob Bellis Lou Corkery Mary Bee Miller Craig Venzke Mary Jo Rommel Nancy Youngblut Carol Erhardt and Steven Dugger.
Readlyn blacksmith Richard Bast was injured Friday morning at his shop when a tractor bucket slipped into gear pinning him against a wall. He sustained severe bruises and a fractured leg and was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
The Band Mothers group in Tripoli will hold a meeting on March 16 at 7 30 p m in the high school home economics room. Hostesses are Mrs Erwin Bock Mrs Clair Davison and Mrs Carl Ryan and entertainment will be provided by Mrs Wm Humence and Mrs E J Fink.
An adult farmer meeting is planned for March 15 at 8 p m in the Tri Poli High School ag room. The session will cover Feed Handling and Farm Buildings and a related film will be shown.
Denver Sunset Home members will meet at the United Church of Christ on March 16 at 8 p m. New members may join at the gathering and become voting members immediately.
The Tripoli Development Corporation holds its sixth annual meeting March 15 at 8 p m in Town Hall. Members will elect two directors to fill expiring terms of G. R. Rettig and Herbert E. Blume and discuss activities and future plans. Proxies are encouraged for absent stockholders.
Allan Alcock of Tripoli High School repeated as a boys first team pick while Verla Zander of Tripoli led the girls on the first team guard squad. The Cedar-Wapsie selections praise Alcock for scoring and rebounding and note Zander as senior guard and top scorer for Tripoli with multiple honors and activities.
Iowa Tax Commission data show Bremer County retail sales for July through September 1964 totaling 6 064 500 on 493 returns, up 221 100 from 5 343 400 on 512 returns in 1963. Waverly led gains with 192 150, followed by Sumner 60 150 Tripoli 14 700 and rural permit holders 33 600. Denver Janesville Readlyn posted declines.
Kenneth Nuss of Frederika, son of Mr and Mrs E J Nuss, was nominated by U S Representative H R Gross for an Air Force Academy appointment in Colorado Springs. The appointment hinges on the physical aptitude test at Offutt AFB on March 1 and college entrance exams at Iowa State University. Kenneth, a Tripoli High School graduate and ISU sophomore, has shown leadership potential through academics and extracurriculars.
The Tripoli Boy Scouts served 277 persons at their annual pancake supper on February 27. Donations came from Tripoli Co-op Creamery, Orleans Co-op Creamery, buttermilk, and Anderson-Erickson Milk.
The organizational meeting of Tripoli Community Chest is rescheduled to Tuesday at 7 30 p m and will be held in the Town Hall.
Mrs L J Magnall was informed of the death of her mother Mrs C A Scheerer in a Boone hospital Tuesday afternoon. The body is at Welms Funeral Home Boone. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 PM at Prairie Center Methodist church.
East Waterloo defeated Sumner 94 54 in a first round Sub-State game at the Waterloo Auditorium. Don Ross scored a record 46 for East Waterloo while DeHaven led Sumner with 17. Sumner finished 16 5 on the season after a setback to Tripoli 46 47 earlier.
