The council met in a special session to reconsider hard surface street work on 14 blocks with 3 inch blacktop. They dropped the contract with Smith Construction after noting failure to publish required notices and bids, and plan to redo the project following Iowa Code guidelines.
Citizens of Tripoli will meet on Wednesday at 6 pm for a community pot-luck and social evening. Cards will be provided for entertainment during the event.
Town council and May Jonnett report persistent vandalism in the hall and rest rooms. The walls and paper receptacles are damaged, with markings and scratches reappearing after cleaning. closures may occur to curb the misconduct.
The meeting on July 3 at the VFW home will finalize plans for the Best Festival. Jaycee Ettes will attend, with Mare Meyer serving as host.
The Women's Guild of St. R Church in Siegel will hold a bake sale on Friday with an appliance plumbing and repair timing noted as 1 30.

Dean Dalziel the area custodian announced plans to lower the water level at Sweet's Marsh Refuge segment and remove rough fish in late August. The plan aims to restore balance after two winters of winter kill and heavy carp infestation. A rotation system among three segments is proposed to preserve fishing in parts of the area during the year and refill the site in time for hunting season.
The Tripoli Community School district proposes $648,050 in general fund expenditures for 1971 72, up $33,156 from last year. Overall budget with bonds and interest tops $703,520. Tax rates are frozen. hearing set for July 12 at 8 00 p.m. at Tripoli High School to discuss the plan.
Denver special report on the installation of Rev. Gary D. Georgi as pastor for St. Pauls Lutheran Artesian and Trinity Lutheran Bremer. Services July 4 with a 10:00 a.m. Trinity service and 2:00 p.m. St. Pauls, both with meals. Georgi born 1945, married 1968, expecting first child in November.
Fifty three Iowa elementary and junior high teachers attend a social studies workshop at the University of Northern Iowa. Mrs Helen Brase and Mrs Audrey Sides of Tripoli participated in the session which began Monday June 21 and runs through Friday July 9.
Steven Tegtmeier of Tri poli is among 58 students named to the University of Iowa College of Business Administration dean’s list by Dean B L Barnes. He was a junior in the spring term and earned a 3.5 GPA or higher for 12 or more semester hours in the second semester of 1970 71.
Tripoli Community Schools announced three new hires for the 1971-72 year. Anne MacClure of Sloan Iowa will teach Home Economics after two years at South Clay Community School. Jonathan Ebersole from Spencer Iowa joins instrumental music with studies at North Iowa and Fargo style programs. John Behrend of Arlington Iowa takes fifth and sixth grade science after Linn-Mar and teaching in Venezuela. Joseph Drips returns to teach English following two years in the service. A guidance counselor will complete the staff.
The Denver Community School Board will meet July 1 at the superintendent's office to open bids for the 1971-72 fiscal year covering bread milk blanket bonds for staff school vehicle liability insurance gasoline and fuel oil bids due by 4 00 p m. Mrs Beverly Johnson of Janesville is contracted to teach German for three periods in the high school Burton Van Auken will teach grades 7 and 9 general science The board will also meet August 2 in regular session.
The Tri County Board of Education proposes a tentative budget of 480 650 dollars for July 1971 to June 1972, up 21 000 dollars or 4.5 percent. A July 19 hearing at 8 00 p m will be held at the Joint County Superintendent’s office in Allison Iowa.
Miss Sharon Miller named 4-H and Youth Director for Bremer and Chickasaw counties by Bremer County Extension Council chair John Droste. She is an Iowa State University graduate with honors in political science plus education and history minors.
Rich Waller reports the Tripoli summer program began June 2 with 72 players ages 8 to 12. Intra city play started June 14, five teams competed, and upcoming games include Indians vs Braves and Cubs vs Yankees. All-star and midget squads will compete in intercity action, with Tripoli defeating Denver 4-1 and 8-0 in opener and second game respectively.
Tripoli defeated Dunkerton 18 to 8 after a six run first inning. Barry Boeckmann hit a grand slam for four RBIs, Chuck Heineman added a grand slam and three hits, Nick Alcock went 4 for 4 with two RBIs, Rod Quass 2 for 2 with three RBIs, Jim Pieterett one hit and four runs scored. Brad Hilderbrardt reliefed. Heineman earned the save. South Winn 6 Tripoli 3 preceded this contest. coach Dave Ray criticized defense and offense. Schedule note: Tripoli's game against Wapsie Valley postponed then moved to July 5.
Tripoli High School class of 1961 held a ten year reunion with a Saturday dinner in town and a Sunday family picnic at South Park. Out of 42 original members 38 attended the IC or dinner, with many spouses present. The photo lists attendees by name and hometowns including Tripoli Elkader Davenport Waverly Waterloo Clinton LeGrand Fairbank and others.
St. John's Lutheran Church Crane Creek hosts a lawn supper on Sunday July 11 starting at 4 00 p m Local residents are invited to enjoy home cooked dishes and fellowship at the church grounds.
Willie Block entered the Sumner hospital Monday for admission.
Tripoli announces the Marsh Market grand opening on July 9 at 136 South Main Street during Harvest Festival Days. The shop will sell local arts and crafts and welcomes handmade items submitted for sale with a 10 percent commission and a $5 annual membership.
Tripoli girls softball defeated Bunkerton 15-0 in three innings marking a dominant win. Coach Marsha Beck notes strong fan interest but urges larger crowds for upcoming home games at 6:00 p.m. with schedule including July 1 Denver and July 2 Turkey V.
