Local fire department and volunteer units issue a tornado warning for Tripoli residents. Immediate shelter urged as the siren sounds repeatedly, signaling danger and urging rapid action until a confirmed sighting or bulletin ends the warning.
The agricultural committee and Bremer County Fair Board announce a county queen contest. Rules forms are available from local banks, and entries are sponsored by organizations or businesses. Judging occurs August 9 with three judges and a presiding lady, followed by a dinner and a parade ride to Des Moines for the state competition.
The Jaycees will meet on June 13 in the VFW room starting at 8:00. The event invites members to attend and participate in planned activities and discussions.
Slated Monday night is Commercial Club with a 7:00 dinner in the Hall. Ladies of Faith UCC serve the dinner. A film titled The Action Is will be shown by the attendance committee. Rezervations requested. Mrs Dennis Haver moved Saturday to 407 First. he had attended Mason City and graduated Friday. Lutheran church women sponsor an ice cream social Wednesday starting 5 p.m. Menu includes Maldrites ham sandwich potato salad chips cabbage baked beans pie cake Kool Aid coffee. The concert in the lot begins at 8:00.
Tripoli Jaycee Wives organize a style show during the Harvest Festival on July 15 and 16. Entries require a completed information form by July 1, available at Tripoli Mercantile and Rettig Furniture and returned to either location. The event runs July 16 at 2 30 p m in Grace Lutheran church basement.
Rev. E. A. Hanff of Grace Lutheran in Tripoli observes his 50th ordination anniversary on Sunday June 16. He and his wife reside in Waverly and are members of Redeemer Lutheran church.
Grace Lutheran church sends Jerry Towne Brian Blasberg Lynn Niemeyer Dan Kalkbren ner and Brenda Jones to EWALU Bible Camp at Strawberry Point this week.
The Rev T Arnold Thompson of the American Lutheran Church in Minneapolis will be guest speaker at Grace Lutheran Church during the 8 and 10 a m services on Sunday June 16. He will discuss sponsorship programs for mission development. Pastor Koengetter will lead the services. a meeting is set for June 30 at 1 30 p m to discuss sponsorship.
A family fun night at Tripoli Town Hall on June 18 at 8 00 features variety acts including RAVE contest entrants with district spots at stake. Hawkeye magician Vern Remy will perform and free lunch concludes the evening. Door prizes reward family members of all ages amid local Farm Bureau women’s committee coordination.
Vacation Bible School at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli ran May 27 to June 7 with 120 area children. The program Tell the Good News focused on sharing Christian faith at home and beyond. An open house displayed crafts and lessons June 7. Brian Selck served as secretary, with teachers and aides listed for Nursery through Sixth Grade.
Glen Ladage reported back to San Diego Tuesday morning where he is stationed with the navy after a 15 day leave spent at the Arno Ladage home.
The annual 4-H better grooming contest at Tripoli High School selected top groomed youths across four age groups. Junior girls Margaret Rewoldt and runners up Joyce Wylam Lori Schmidt. junior boys Jayson Hoppenworth Randy Bergmann. intermediate girls Debbie Kuethe ilary Hoppenworth Marcia Smith. intermediate boys David Ingham Bill Hildebrandt. senior girls Becky Leistikow Jody Smith. senior boys Steve Kerr Steve Mummelth er Townline Cowboys. County officers hosted about 150 contestants and guests as judges named winners and alternates.
Bremer County tourism aids include a color slide series narrated on tape showcasing five parks under the Bremer County Conservation Commission Sweet's Marsh Bremer County Museum the Antique Shop in Sumner the Hitching Post and more. The slides can be booked by writing or phoning the Chamber of Commerce office in Waverly.
More than 400 students received degrees at the June 7 commencement of North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. Among the 400 plus graduates are Mary Brewer and Michael Fink who received associate in arts degrees.
Iowa Highway Patrol license examiners will be at Tri Poli Town Hall on Saturday June 15 from 8:00 to noon. Renewals issued until noon, tests run until 11:00 a.m. The examining team will not return to Tripoli until July 20.
Jaycee Wives met June 3 at Mrs. Robert Meyer’s home to plan a Grace Lutheran church basement style show for July 16 and a dunk-em tank at the Harvest Festival. A picnic is set for June 23 at South Park with a noon potluck. The next meeting is July 1 at Mrs. Duane Bremer’s home and JC pin work will feature felt as the next object.
Mr and Mrs Wm KE Martin of Huntington Beach California visited the Arthur Bunger home on Wednesday. They attended a family picnic at the Ralph Michael home in Waterloo in their honor. Mrs Martins birthday was observed.
The Waterloo Choral Association under director John Evenson will air two pops selections on WL-TV channel 7 on Sunday June 16 at 4 30 p m on Focal Point. A first concert with the Waterloo Arts Carnival is planned at Byrnes Park Band Shelter at 7 p m June 24 with Martin T. final.
Bremer County Board of Supervisors set June 14 as the bid date for the year's supply of road maintenance rock. A total of 59,200 tons of class A road stone will be let, similar to prior years, with road rocking to begin June 15 and finish by October 1.
Greene attorney John Van Eschen announced his bid for the Democratic nomination for the U S House third district. A Butler County lawyer for a decade, he is an Ackley native and Williams College graduate who chairs the Greene Community school board and serves in the Navy veterans and civic groups.
A six week summer program for Tripoli and Frederika area children opens Tuesday with about 90 registrants. Lessons run Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 18 through July 30 at Whitmire Memorial pool in Sumner. Registration closes June 15. fee 50 cents with an extra 10 cent session admission, except for season ticket holders.
Wapsie Valley Pantherettes defeated Tripoli 16 to 3 as Glenda Matthias went 2 for 3. Tammy Kelsey earned the win on the mound and Wapsie opened an eight run fourth inning then added three in the sixth to seal the victory. Upcoming games include North Winneshiek on June 13 and New Hampton on June 14 with 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. start times respectively.
Mrs Dorothy Chapin underwent arm surgery after being admitted to Scholtz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo last week.
Henry F. Meier 78 of Frederika died unexpectedly at home Monday. Funeral service Thursday June 13 at 2 p.m. at St John Lutheran Frederika with a 1 50 p.m. family prayer. Rev Harry Feistner will officiate. Burial in Faith United Church of Christ cemetery Tripoli. Casket bearers Truman Stahl Frederic Rewoldt Stanley Bahlmann Lawrence Bockhaus Elmer Matthias Wm Breman. Survived by two daughters Mrs Leo Bearman Frederika and Mrs Robert Kuhrt Tripoli. four sons Leslie rural Tripoli Lawrence Waterloo Orville Readlyn Everett West Union. two brothers Christ and August Tripoli. Preceded by daughter Esther and wife Mary in 1961.
Tripoli Public Library launches its Summer Reading Program from June 10 to July 13 led by librarian Elinor Block. The Circus Time theme features clown and animal decorations. Children from kindergarten through eighth grade register to read new books and earn spots on a circus suit.
The Iowa highway commission differs from its staff over a uniform $40 annual license plate fee for all passenger cars. Commission Chairman Harry J. Brdaley stressed that the staff made the proposal, not the five commissioners, in a recent statement.
Mrs. August Krueger was discharged today from Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo after a period of observation starting June 2.
