Readlyn and Tripoli, each 1-0 in Cedar Valley league play, meet Sunday at 2 15 p m after Tripoli toppled Plainfield 12 1 last week and Readlyn beat Janesville in opener May 26 The matchup follows Janesville at Plainfield with Readlyn rider Ralph Fink and Olejniczak leading Tripoli at the plate and in the pitching rotation.
Gene Frank of Cresco, a current Iowa State College student from Ames, was hired by the Bremer County extension council as Youth Assistant. He will begin June 17 and serve through the summer until possibly called to military duty around mid September.

Funeral services for Henry W. Kruse 76 who died unexpectedly at his home were held Tuesday at Rettig Funeral Home and Grace Lutheran Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with casket bearers Edwin Tegtmeier Raymond Bruse Orville Haase Lorenz Meier Art Bunger and Harry Buhr. Kruse born August 20 1880 in Schneeren Germany came to the United States in 1905 and lived in Tripoli since 1929. He married Sophia Bergmann Luehring in 1928 and was a Grace Lutheran member and councilman 1952-54. He is survived by his wife a step-daughter two grandchildren and two sisters. He was preceded by his parents three sisters and two brothers.
Bremer county district court clerk Mary Loucks resigns effective July 1. Lois Slater, her deputy, is appointed to fill the unexpired term ending January 1, 1959. Loucks says she will devote more time to family.
Tuesday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rohrssen in honor of his 83rd birthday were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zahn and family, Waverly.
Dennis Schwem son of Mr and Mrs Loraine Schwem underwent minor surgery Tuesday morning at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo.
Cpl Wendall G Redies leaves his parents Mr and Mrs Gus Redies and other relatives here to return to Hawaii on Wednesday. He is stationed with the Third Marine Division.

Readlyn will host a caucus Friday at 8 p m in the school gym to select candidates for the new Wapsie Valley Community School district. Election of board members is set for Thursday, June 27.
Summer temperatures rose to 84 in the Tripoli vicinity on Tuesday while clear skies allowed farmers and gardeners to resume field work. Day readings ranged 68 to 84 with nightly lows 44 to 59 as nearly an inch of rain fell earlier in the week. Weather observer Carl W. Ryan logged 87 hundredths Wednesday, 58 hundredths Thursday, and a trace Saturday, ending a period of wet weather.

Tripoli Red Cross Chapter will hold its annual meeting next Wednesday night June 12 at 8 in Town Hall. Geo M Lindsley, president, urged all who contributed to the Red Cross or Tripoli Community Chest to attend as plans for the coming year and this summer's youth swimming program will be discussed and officers elected.
The American Legion auxiliary raised 135.20 from its annual Poppy Day sale held Saturday May 25. One quarter of net proceeds goes to the state auxiliary department while the rest stays in the local treasury for child welfare and rehabilitation work.
Voters will select five directors and a treasurer July 1 1957 for the newly formed Wapsie Valley Community School district Terms of office run to March 1958 March 1959 and March 1960 as noted Nomination papers available May 29 at Bremer County Superintendent's Office and due by June 18 at noon
Dorothea Tegtmeier daughter of Mrs. Ida Tegtmeier was admitted to Sumner Community hospital on Tuesday afternoon and underwent surgery on Wednesday morning as reported by local sources.
The Tripoli Town Council approved a curb and gutter program to start this year after an engineer survey and public hearing. About six and a half blocks will be treated, covering areas near Rettig Funeral Home and Grace Lutheran Church. The town will cover intersection work and alley entrances, while property owners pay curb and gutter costs along property lines via a 10 year assessment.
Local temporary farm jobs are available through Clifford Zamzow at the Hub in Tripoli. Zamzow is a volunteer representative of the Iowa State Employment Service in Waterloo and assists farmers and workers in matching labor. High school students and men seeking haying work may leave name, address, and phone number at the Hub for contact.
The Bremer County Board of Supervisors accepted Mulgrew Blacktop Inc. of Dubuque for a 12 mile blacktopping contract at 168 765.53 dollars with completion by August 31. Norris Construction Co. and Kehe Construction Co. placed the next lowest bids. Kingsley Construction Co. of Waverly won the 16 mile grading contract at 46 697.48 dollars. Work to begin as conditions permit and dates to be set with County Engineer M H Noonan.
Tripoli Cub Scouts will run a town-wide paper collection drive Saturday to raise funds. Trucks start about 8 30 a m and residents should have papers bundled and curbside ready by then for cooperation.
Mayor Rudolph Piegers announced that two individuals were fined in May for traffic offenses. Clifford Zamzow paid $5 and Theo Peters paid $25 for careless and reckless driving respectively, with information filed by Town Marshal Ed Bany.

Contributions toward a new automatic resuscitator for emergencies in Tripoli total 236 dollars, up 80 from last week’s 156. A 600 dollar goal covers the unit two oxygen tanks and an extension hose. It will be shown at the band concert next Tuesday at North Town Park with fire department staff present to answer questions.

In a Tuesday special election Tripoli voters granted a 25 year non exclusive franchise to Northern Natural Gas Co of Omaha. 212 ballots cast 187 yes 23 no two spoiled yielding an 88 percent majority. Approval requires plan submission to the Federal Power Commission before gas distribution begins. Sumner also voted on a similar franchise as part of northeast Iowa cross town pipeline planning.
Widening of the street one half block west of the Tripoli Post Office was started this week by L L Moeller Construction Co. New curbs are being cut to align with the east half, and the new sections of the street are being paved. The project will relieve traffic bottlenecks caused by downtown two hour parking rules. Town funds are paying the cost.
Sadie King, deputy license clerk in the Bremer County treasurer’s office, was appointed county treasurer by the Board of Supervisors to fill the unexpired term of F. L. McAlpine who died Friday. The term ends Jan 1, 1959. McAlpine, 67, died at Mercy Hospital in Waverly after a stroke and heart ailment. Funeral at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. McAlpine, born March 12, 1890, was married to Barbara Sager. survived by widow and three sons George of Oconomowoc Wisconsin, Robert of Piedmont California, and Max of Waverly.
Tripoli's race horse enthusiasts opened their season at Waverly Sunday afternoon with a first, second, third and two fourths. Ragtime owned by Walter Sommer won a first while Golden Jack, Sommer's other horse, placed third, both ridden by Dale Schmidt. Erwin Hay's Dunn Buzz took a second and Patty Fury finished fourth, ridden by Milton Gaede. Cash, owned by Herb Jahnke, earned a fourth with Schmidt aboard. Next meet at Allison on Sunday June 16.
