Looking At Life As It Used To Be In Tripoli In 1935
In Tripoli a new firm resembling The Standard Hardware Co. is planned with $25,000 authorized capital, mainly farmers. Threshing is in full blast with 35 to 40 bushels per acre in many fields. The community notes low water in the Wapsipinicon but local fishing yields eel and bass. The St Peters Evangelical church corner stone was laid with pastors Reiman Wasko and Erdmann. A major local crime in Sumner involved a 17-year-old maid hidden in a closet after a burglary at Dr. Bries’ home. Roy Jacobson and Irene Baker wed in Montevideo and will live in Dexter where he leads a canning plant. Threshing ramps up, oats yield 40-60 bu/acre. Announcements include Donald Hale’s marriage to Dorothy McDougall in Wenatchee and several hospital and health notes. Local market prices: eggs 19–26c, chickens 6–18c, hogs 10.95, packers 9.60, veal 2–7.25. Property transfers include Mrs Scheve residence, Kramer property, and parcels bought by Mrs Herbert Slack and Johanna Jungblut. An 80-acre farm west of town on Highway 93 changed hands.
