Schmidt Wins Twice at Waverly Racing Meet

Jockey Dale Schmidt of Tripoli rode two winners in the Sunday program at Waverly. His victories included Ragtime owned by Walter Sommer of Tripoli in the four furlongs race, time 50 4/5 seconds. He also won the four and a half furlongs aboard E. R. owned by Reagen and Aphy of Hampton. He placed second in the three other events.

Duane Bockholt Appointed County Agent for Farm Bureau

Three men were fined in Mayor Rudolf Piegers court for July traffic violations. Jack Frese paid $2 fine and $1 costs for overtime parking in a 15 minute zone. Elmer Bockhaus fined $2 and Kenneth Rettig paid $2 plus $1 costs for improper parking. Information on the first two cases was filed by Paul Kuethe, assistant town marshal. The third case was filed by Ed Bany, town marshal.

Red Sox to Represent Cedar Valley in ABC Tourney at Sumner

The Cedar Valley league will be represented by the Red Sox at Sumner in the American Baseball Congress state tournament August 23 to 28. Six teams play a double elimination format with Sumner hosting one bracket and Allison hosting another. Winners meet in a best two out of three series to decide who goes to the national tournament.

St Peter’s Church Votes to Start Building Program

Members of St Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church voted to begin a two stage plan to replace the present church with an educational building and a new house of worship. Architects Thorson Thorson and Madson of Waterloo presented sketches. About 150 attended the meeting with no addition to the existing church approved.

Readlyn District Second Boundary Hearing Set in Waverly

A second hearing on Readlyn Community School district boundaries is scheduled for 8 p m on Wednesday September 7 at the courthouse in Waverly. Bremer county Supt R C Gaard said the meet will finalize the district lines after a joint Bremer and Black Hawk boards session reduced the district by about five sections and excluded voters choosing other districts. Objections must be filed by noon September 7. About 125 people attended the prior hearing, with many objectors from the district outskirts.
