Two Die in Highway 59 Auto Crash West of Tri Poli
A touring car driven by Bert Lumry and carrying Lewis Ferris Alice Kobliska and Evelyn Natvig left the road near Tri Poli early Sunday. Ferris Kobliska were killed instantly. Lumry and Natvig suffered serious injuries but were improving Monday. The group had been returning Natvig to New Hampton after a summer session at Gates Business College and Upper Iowa University.

A 1931 brown Chevrolet coach owned by Lawrence Meier of Crane Creek was stolen last Wednesday around 9 30 PM from the street across from the Mercantile block. Ernst Stehn of Central States Power and Light saw a car speed east ignoring a stop sign and later learned a car was missing. license 9246. No further details available.

Former Sumner hotel man buried Thursday
Henry S. Stevens 80, pioneer Sumner hotel man, died at a daughter's home in Saples Minnesota. Funeral held Thursday at United Brothers church with Rev F C Scott officiating. Burial in Wilson Grove cemetery. Survived by three daughters and an adopted son. Daughters Maizie Nichols Saples Etta Allbright Jefferson Mildred Freemer Davenport and Frank of New York state. Wife and two daughters Claude Cox and Mark West preceded him in death. The Stevens family had lived in Sumner and Waterloo for many years.

Road work continues six miles south of Tripoli with workmen shouldering the road to highway No 10 and plans for a gravel coat. About 450 yards of gravel per mile will be spread. Rattlers Found In Cottage By Lake Residents
Donald Hale and Waldron Ducker report rattlesnakes occupying their Sweet's Lake hamlet after mice under the floor drew the reptiles. They killed two large snakes near the cottage and note several snakes along the bottomlands, hoping a cement floor will curb the problem.

Fatal accident claims Mrs Schroeder near Tripoli
Mrs William Schroeder of Tripoli died in Mercy hospital Waverly Tuesday from injuries suffered July 13 when she sat on a pitchfork handle while sliding from a hay loft onto a hay rack. Survived by her husband three daughters father and four brothers. Funeral at home Friday then St Peters Evangelical church with interment north of town. An obituary to follow.

Chadwick Returns Home After Cataract Operation
J. J. Chadwick has recovered well from cataract surgery at St. Joseph's hospital New Hampton and returned to his home Monday at age 87. Miss Alice Krueger drove to New Hampton to bring him home. His recovery is described as above average despite his advanced age.

Narrow Escape On Cedar River Ends With Heroic Escape
Max Wahl, owner of a city battery service shop, tipped his motor boat on the Cedar River last Wednesday at about eight. He became trapped beneath the craft, but lifeguard Alex Miller summoned help and Wahl freed himself, swimming toward shore. He was exhausted yet uninjured and says he would not repeat the ordeal.
