John Asmus Sr., 82, died July 6 after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Rettig Funeral home and the Congregational church, Tripoli, at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Greenwood cemetery, Cedar Falls. Pallbearers were Kenneth Chapin, E W Kirchhoff, Mervyn Ormston, Herman Sien, Henry J Frese and William Hurmence. He was born November 4, 1877 in Dorchester Nebraska and lived in Friend, Dorchester, Osceola, Cedar Falls and Tripoli. He married Ida Mortiz in 1911 and had eight children. He had been a Congregationalist at Tripoli for 12 years.

Bremer county farmers may file refund claims from July 1 to October 31 for federal gasoline tax paid on farm use during the year ending June 30. The refund is 4 cents per gallon for gas bought after October 1, 1959, with 3 cents per gallon for purchases between July 1 and October 1, 1959. No refunds cover gasoline used in passenger cars or nonfarm purposes. Previous filers will receive claim forms by mail. others may obtain forms from the IRS in Des Moines or the County Extension office in Tripoli.
