Anticipate Small Hog Receipts To Continue
The July issue of Agricultural Economic Facts from Iowa State College extension reports three main factors reducing hog supplies on primary markets in June and pushing prices up from 3.20 to 4.70 between June 6 and 22. Narrow corn hog ratio forced feeders to market unfinished hogs, winter and spring receipts were heavy with light weight pigs, and a drought pressured feed and hog sales while sows and gifts declined as signers of contracts prepare for the fall 1934 pig crop. The circular notes likely continued tight hog supplies and higher prices through summer.
