The Iowa tax commission reports receipts of 37.3 million for the fiscal year, with non resident receipts at 197 538 and second half installments up 611 294 to 5 397 278. About 805 458 filed state income tax returns, 554 987 paid taxes due, versus 838 639 filers last year with 559 649 paying. Five thousand twenty nine filed returns without payments totaling 210 237. last year 4 532 did not submit payments. Monthly penalties apply for late payments. Waverly Iowa June 21 1961. Farmers Can File Now for Gas Tax Refunds Says C E D
Bremer county farmers may file between July 1 and October 1, 1961 for refunds of federal gas tax paid on farm use during the year ending June 30. County Extension Director Gene B. Vincent notes last year’s claim forms will be mailed. others may request from the IRS Des Moines office or the Extension office in Tripoli. Economist H. B. Howell says farmers can claim 4 cents per gallon on gas bought in the prior year, with no refunds for gas used in passenger cars, trucks, or non farming operations.

Guinea Pig Colony Arrives at Ames Disease Center
A contented group of more than 2,000 guinea pigs arrived safely at the new federal animal disease center in Ames after a 32 hour journey from Beltsville Maryland. The blood line animals, dating to 1925, are to be used in disease research.
