The Tripoli Post Office will cut Saturday window hours to 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. while Monday to Friday remain 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Customers are advised to buy 13c stamp booklets as the lobby vending machine won’t dispense current-rate stamps. A chili supper at Faith United Church of Christ Youth Fellowship is set for Sunday February 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. Adults $1.50. children 12 and under $1.00. preschoolers free.
Claudia Schneer, daughter of Donald and Mrs Nielsen, graduates from UNI with a B A in teaching and a double major in Earth Science and Science.
Bremer County Auditor Jerald Fuerstenberg announced papers for Sheriff Clerk of Court Auditor and Supervisors District I II are available with a filing deadline of April 14 at 5 p.m. Papers must bear signatures: 158 for Sheriff Clerk of Court Auditor, 78 for District I Supervisor, 38 for District III Supervisor. Also notes Coe College Instrumental Festival Feb 7 in Cedar Rapids with area participants Janice Kerr Shari Hodges Bill Triplett and Linda Buchholz.
Bremer County Extension Service sponsors a one day Corn and Soybean Production Clinic at Tripoli Town Hall on Wednesday February 4 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. ISU agronomist Ganen Benson and entomologist Harold Stockdale along with Kay Connelly will discuss yield-maximizing practices including foliar soybean feeding and 1976 herbicide and insecticide recommendations. Open to all regardless of race color sex or origin. Senior Citizens meet on February 4 at 6 pm for a pot luck at the same venue with bingo grab bag gifts.
Tripoli edged Wapsie Valley 48 47 as Craig Bruns drew a foul with 3 seconds left and sank the second deed at the line for the winning points. Bruns led Tripoli with 12 points and 14 rebounds while Dave Alcock added 11 and Kevin Kuhrt 10 as the Panthers endured a tight finish and balanced scoring.
Wapsie Sportsmen's Club held its annual dinner meeting at Maple Hills Country Club with 79 members. Three-year directors elected were Wm. A. Kuker Howard Tegtmeier and L. L. Moeller. Holdover terms include Jerry Snelling Leo Sauerbrei Marwin Blasberg Valgene Boeckmann John Samuelson and Lloyd Kammeyer.
A social security representative will hold a session at the Courthouse Aty Room on Thursday February 19 from 10:00 am to noon. Vernon Ever district manager notes services can be conducted by telephone for Waterloo residents. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Reverend Larry H Bunger will serve as pastor and teacher at First United Church of Christ in Bourbon Indiana beginning February 1 1976. The service features sermon titled Expectations and People with Rev Donald Rickthal and Rev David Gosser assisting. Bunger, a Tripoli Michigan native, holds a BA from Elmhurst College 1966 and a Master of Divinity from a St Louis Seminary 1970. He previously led churches in Casco Richmond Westville and is married to Beverly Kaupp with one son Joshua. Residence listed as 205 N Harris Bourbon Indiana.
Three Bremer County seniors earned academy nominations from Rep. Charles Grassley as part of a district total of thirty three. The nominees include Mikel Koschmeder Readlyn to the Naval Academy, Roy Erickson Waverly to the Naval Academy, and Cheryl Benner Denver to the Air Force Academy. Grassley noted selection based on academics testing activities and letters of recommendation and said applications move forward to the academies for final appointment. The Potters Siding Creamery Cooperative will hold its annual meeting February 3, 1976 at 8 p.m.
The Fremont Precinct Republican Caucus on January 19 elected ten delegates to Bremer County Republican Convention on February 28 in Waverly. Delegates include Ken Hoppenworth Melvin Schwartz Leon Kirchhoff Hadley Brewer Pauline Lahmann Valeria Schwartz Alice Krueger Gladys Rettig Dorothy Bull James Lahmann. Bremer County Central Committee members elected were James Lahmann and Leon Kirchhoff. The caucus also considered twenty two platform issues with votes recorded.
The Bremer County Heart Association starts a 1976 campaign with a $5,000 goal for the Heart Fund drive in February. Bremer County fundraiser chair John McKee of Waverly says funds support heart research education and community programs. Iowa Legislator Ray Lageschulte receives the Defender of Freedom award from the Conservative Coalition of Iowa for 1975 for backing freedom and limited government.
The Iowa Employment Security Commission reports that 7585 unemployed Iowans exhausted unemployment benefits in 1975. During the year 6318 workers exhausted benefits under state and federal programs, and 1267 exhausted benefits under a special federal unemployment assistance program.
Reminder that entries for the Tripoli Bicentennial emblem contest must be submitted by February 1 at the Tripoli Public Library. Entries should be black and white within a 16 square inch area, such as 4 by 4 inches, with shading to create variation. A $20 prize awaits the winner.
A two day Dairy Management School will be held February 3 and 10, 1976 at Carvers Restaurant in Waverly, Iowa. Sessions run 9 30 a m to 3 p m with topics Mastitis Control Milking Management Reproductive Disorders February 3 and Nutrition Calf Management and Profit Potential February 10. Presenters include Dr John Herrick Dr Basil Eastwood Dr Kent Nelson Phil Hefford and Dale Thoreson. A 3 00 fee covers noon meal contact Tripoli county extension office for details.
Grace Lutheran Church of Tripoli held its annual congregational meeting January 18 to elect officers and committees and discuss business. Paul Voetmann was elected president with a 44 000 dollar budget approval and plans for a 75th anniversary. The german services were suspended and a study committee was formed for the Fred Deterding estate gift. Tripoli police began enforcing two hour parking on Main Street with warnings.
Tripoli varsity wrestlers dominated Greene 47-8 Tuesday night with Greene forfeiting three matches and Tripoli claiming six wins in the varsity lineup. Greene did win two bouts and a scoreless tie occurred in one weight class. Also noted: Tripoli defeated South Winneshiek 25-21 earlier and Jesup edged Wapsie Valley 27-24.
The Iowa Conservation Commission notes that quail raccoon and fox seasons end January 31 while trapping closes the same date for several animals. Cotton tail and jack rabbit hunting runs through February 29 with a year round open season on coyotes and beaver trapping until April 11 except in riverfront regions.
A Mitchell Manor clinic in Waverly saw 103 residents tested with 21 referred to doctors. Five of the referred had no prior high blood pressure history. 16 already on treatment. A follow up clinic is planned for March 17 at Tripoli Town Hall from 1 to 4 PM supervised by Marie Zelle.
