Bec Ervin Tonne elected president of the Entry Club as Maple Hills Coun Club holds its annual reorganizational meeting. Lawrence Heinemann named vice president and Steve Schwemm as secretary-treasurer.
Bremer County farm families are invited to a three hour Family Safety Seminar at Tripoli Town Hall at 10 30 on Thursday February 9. The program covers safe tractor operation fuel storage agricultural chemicals grain handling and drowning risks with slides films lectures and discussions. Reserve by February 1 by contacting the Bremer County Farm Bureau in Waverly or Mrs Jeff Traeger. A noon potluck meal will be provided attendees should bring a dish and tableware.
Faith United Church of Christ members held their annual congregational meeting after a shortened service. The 1975 expenses totaled 36380.07 with a proposed 1976 budget of 37555.00 approved. Four members won three year terms for the church council and officers were elected.
Funeral services for August H. Harms 61 of Tripoli were held Monday at Grace Lutheran Church Tripoli with Rev. Wm. C. Spencer officiating. Harms died January 16 after a heart attack at Allen Memorial Hospital. He owned Fred's Body Shop in Tripoli for 15 years and is survived by wife Luella daughter-in-law and grandchildren, plus his mother and siblings. The Wapsie Sportsmen's Club dinner and 1976 dues notice followed.
The Iowa Conservation Commission announces the transfer of the Manchester cold water fish hatchery from the U. S. Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife effective January 1. The Backbone facility becomes a public visitor center and the Manchester site will host the ICC northeast Iowa district office.
Seventeen Denver residents enroll in the Emergency Medical Technician course at Hawkeye Tech to staff a new Denver ambulance service. The six month program includes 79 hours of classroom work and 21 hours of clinical training. The team aims to have the ambulance in Denver by end of January funded by donations and city funds.
Funeral services for Bertha Peters 78 of Readlyn were at St Matthew Lutheran Church Readlyn with Rev John Albrecht officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Peters survived by seven sons two daughters and many grandchildren. preceded by husband Donald and other relatives. A Bremer County W W I Barracks meeting followed at the V F W Hall in Waverly.
Tripoli Commercial Club held its first dinner meeting of the year at city hall with twenty seven attendees served by Grace Lutheran Church. Mayor Ed Bennett proposed eliminating two on street parking spots on main street to improve sight lines near the extension office corner and Interstate Power Co corner. He discussed zoning possibilities and reminded of Pancake Day plans in February. The group voted to end the current bank night promotion on March 4 with a final cash prize drawing and to pursue a new method for awarding the prize.
Timothy Wane Smalley, a Tripoli Community School senior, is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students for ranking in the top 4 percent nationally. He serves four years on student council, led as treasurer and president, and held booster 4H officer roles. Smalley earned varsity letters in four sports and was first team all conference in football this season. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Smalley of Sumner.
Iowa dairy farmers will vote by mail from January 23 to February 7 1976 on a new 2c per hundredweight check off for ten months with a 4c rate for May June. The Iowa Dairy Industry Commission will manage funds and set annual rates while reaffirmation occurs every five years.
Tripoli wrestlers defeated Wapsie Valley 34 21 on Wednesday while Jesup beat Wapsie Valley 29 24 on Saturday. The meet results list pins and decisions for both teams along with upcoming conference matches.
Tripoli’s Pantherettes defeated Dunkerton 63 33 as Gayle Meihost led with 13 points for Tripoli. The Tripoli boys fell 56 44 with Gayle Meihost in double figures for the girls. Joyce Fink poured in 41 for Dunkerton.
Tripoli High defeats NU High of Cedar Falls 72 62 in double overtime to notch a non conference boys basketball win. Five Panthers reach double figures as Craig Bruns and Kevin Kuhrt combine for 33 points and 18 rebounds.
Democrats caucused Monday night in Tripoli city hall and elected seven delegates to the County Democratic Convention on March 6 in Waverly. Delegates: Richard Harms Joyce Harms Dave Newman Diane Newman Dave Kuethe Everett Tessmer Walter Lohmann. Newman named committeeman and Diane Newman committeewoman. Richard Harms elected to Bremer County Platform committee and Dave Newman to county committee on committees.
A conservation tillage meeting will be held at the Tripoli Town Hall on Wednesday January 28 1976 starting at 1 30 p m. Iowa State University expert Professor Dave Williams and Kay Connelly will discuss economics and advantages of minimum tillage systems. Extension invites all areas regardless of race color sex or national origin.
Funeral services were held Thursday January 15 for Art Stumme 84 of Waverly. He died January 12 after a brief hospitalization. Born June 28, 1891 in Maxfield Township Bremer County he was the son of Christopher and Wilhelmina Stumme. He married Hulda Brandt in 1913, farmed, later married Rose Mersbach, retired to Waverly in 1948, moved to Shell Rock Care Center in 1975. Survived by Rose, daughter Leona Mrs Harold Meyer, sons Conrad and Ewald, brother Arnold, 19 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Preceded by first wife, four brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.
