Police report a string of break ins around 2:00 a.m. at several Tri County shops including a liquor store and food market. About $160 in merchandise was stolen plus $142.20 in liquor and $30 in cigars, with total losses over $300. Store fronts were well lit and cash was taken from the liquor store, food market, and Skelly service station, as county officials investigate.
A representative ad uniform company will attend to display band uniform styles at the meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the venue.
Services were held Wednesday at St Matthew Church Read- Wilhelm Everding 86 died morning at Allen Hospital Waterloo. His wife preceded him in 1965 birthday. Survived by former Katherine a stepson Eugene Hinrichs Mallard Charles Ritter Queen City Mo two children two great grandchildren and three brothers.
R F received a gold award from Ox Industries Inc for 25 years of continuous service as owner of the Lennox mining and heating business, marking five decades of certified Lennox dealer status.
The Jaycee Ettes hold an evening meeting at the VFW House with Kathy Crooks and ES to discuss community activities. Residents are invited to attend for updates and group planning.
The Woman's League met in the town hall for officer elections. Shires was elected with V Kirchhoff as vice president and R J Bunger as secretary. Mrs Ruth Woodcock spoke. Mrs Marm directed Public On from Mental Health Independence. Mrs Howard Byam presented a program about admissions under 21 and Iowa hospitals ranking in the top ten. Ronald Warner and others were discussed for upcoming nations.
The Iowa JayceeEttes join a state program to collect 100 000 signatures for Iowans Care for POW MIA s petitions. Signatures support a full accounting of missing men adherence to Geneva Conventions and a release timetable. Tripoli Jayceettes distribute petitions through community sites American Savings Bank The Hub and Tripoli Bowl In urging signatures.
Potters Siding Creamery Co. will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday February 2 at 8:00 p.m. at the creamery building. W H Kallenbach secretary says two directors will be elected and other business will be presented.
Friendship circle of Faith United Church of Christ will host a chili and oyster supper on Sunday January 31 at the church. Serving begins at 4 30 p m. Prices are 1.00 for adults and 50 for children ages four through ten. Public invited.
The Tripoli Jaycees announce their third annual Bosses Night banquet for Sunday February 7 at 6 30 p m in the town hall. Lee Hinrichs past Iowa Jaycees president Hampton Iowa will be the main speaker. Attendees should reply to Dennis A Weidler, event chairman, and contact any missing local business representatives.
Tripoli Senior Citizens plan a Wednesday February 3 gathering with a 6 p.m. pot luck supper followed by a business meeting and annual officer election. Cards will close the evening as entertainment. All seniors are welcome to attend.
The annual meeting on January 19 saw Carl E. Hagemann of Waverly elected chairman to succeed the late Harry H. Hagemann. Melvin Krumm named bank president with C. C. Eichmann as vice president and cashier.
Bremer County finished 1970 with Series E and H savings bonds sales totaling 485 130 dollars, reaching 109 percent of the annual quota. December sales across all towns reached 5 746 365 dollars, contributing to Iowa's state total of 73 894 192 dollars for 101 percent of the yearly goal. Iowa sets 1971 goal at 75 300 000 dollars. Bremer County 1971 quota is 477 400 dollars. Other counties showed varied performance for 1970.
Kay Connelly a Waterloo Extension Crop Specialist will discuss Corn Diseases including Helminthosporium leaf blight at a free public meeting Monday February 1 at 7 30 pm in Tripoli High School. Dale Shires Bremer County Extension Director will cover Farm Program implications. Future topics include Corn Production February 8 Soybean Production February 15 and Weed and Insect Control February 22.
The 13th annual men’s city bowling tournament will run February 12 to 17. Singles and doubles trials occur February 12 and 14 with multiple evening times, teams on February 15 and 17, entry deadline February 6, at Tripoli Bowl-In.
Sonny Olejniczak, 9, son of Mr and Mrs Dennis Olejniczak and grandson of Mr and Mrs Ed Olejniczak, finished runner-up in his age division of the Punt Pass and Kick Contest held before the Pro Bowl in Los Angeles. He was defeated by Stephen Christensen of Galveston Texas.
Tripoli farmers Jerry Beevers and Lloyd Kammeyer received special honors for record corn yields under Project 200. Beevers produced 162.1 bushels per acre using Funk G-4444 in 30 inch rows with 28 000 plants per acre and 600 pounds fertilizer. Kammeyer yielded 178.0 bushels with 24 000 plants per acre in 38 inch rows and 640 pounds fertilizer. Both harvests occurred in October 1970 and moisture ranged 22.8 to 24.4 percent.
Mrs. Otto Buls came home Friday from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, marking a relief for her family and confirming her post hospitalization recovery.

Tripoli wrestlers rallied from 15 3 down to beat South Winneshiek 22 18 at South Winn allowing Garner Zander and Hildebrandt to seal the comeback with a 167 pin and a 185 forfeit. Panthers note reserve win 32 16 and list upcoming dates at Nashua Stormont Greene and Jesup.
Waverly Public Library invites readers to meet Julia McDonald, wife of a Davenport attorney and mother of two, at an event Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. Her novel Amalie's Story, in its third printing, traces a 19th century Danish immigrant in Iowa. She may donate her manuscript to the University of Iowa City collection.
Funeral rites will be held Thursday at 2 pm at Horton Baptist church for Elmer L. Shipp 73 who died Sunday night at Waverly hospital after a three week stay. He was born January 21 1898 in Polk township Bremer county the son of Lewis A and Elizabeth Garrison Shipp. He married Adalena Strotman in Long Beach California and they lived on a Plainfield area farm. Survived by wife one son Rev Gordon Shipp Park Ridge Illinois two sisters Mrs Ernest Jergens Cedar Falls Mrs John Walker Waterloo and three grandchildren. Preceded by his parents and two sons Waldron and Galen E. in 1955.
Miriam French returned home Thursday from Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo after a two week stay as a patient.
The Cedar-Wapsie boys basketball race returns to a three way tie after Tripoli drops a one point 71-70 decision to Wapsie Valley. Denver and Turkey Valley win to stay in contention as fouls run high and Tripoli battles injuries and close scoring. Coach Ray laments defense and rebounding while stressing the need to win the final four games. Brenda Moeller scores 48 for Wapsie Valley girls in a 71-66 win. Tripoli’s Sue Platte shoots well against Moeller.
Wartburg freshman Randy Neuendorf of Waverly claimed the 126 lb title at the Lea College Invitational in Albert Lea Minnesota defeating Steve Eckert 9-2 John Burt 8-7 and Brock Masrud 10-9 to lead Wartburg to a 100 point team total Roger Buchholz took third at 150 lbs and Gene Johnson was runner up at heavyweight all former Tripoli high school wrestlers.
Mrs. H. H. Hoppenworth came home Tuesday following a surgical admission at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
