Expense of Corn Hog Campaign Depends on County Asi'ns
Bremer county will form a corn hog production control association after sign-up days and contracting. D. D. Offringa says county expenses will be taken from benefit payments but kept nominal. costs vary by county and are prorated by corn acres and hogs under contract. Soybeans Hold Strong As Iowa Emergency Crop
Iowa State College economist Albert Mighell notes soybeans are an excellent emergency crop and popular during the current agricultural stress. From 1919 to 1933 Iowa soybean acreage swelled from 471 to about 300,000 acres, signaling their importance for late substitutions when other crops fail. They perform well on acid soils but less suited to rolling land and sweet soils. they drought tolerate yet weed prone with heavy rainfall. They supply high protein feed, require less cash in hard times, and grow with minimal inoculation if on good soil, though inoculation aids nitrogen from the air. Experiments favor four row or grain drills over corn planters for planting.
