Judy Buckendahl niece of Mr and Mrs Ray Dirksen spends Christmas vacation in Hawaii with cousin David C Dirksen stationed at Pearl Harbor. While swimming at Waikiki a Portuguese Man of War struck David causing a medical treatment. He suffered a scar but no serious after effects and enjoyed sharing Oahu. Pearl Harbor has been his home port since Aug 1 1961.

S C Kimm 72 a retired Denver banker died Sunday Jan 20 at his Denver home. Funeral services were at 1 30 pm Wednesday at St Pauls United Church of Christ with Rev Duane A Meyer officiating. American Legion conducted graveside rites at Fairview cemetery. Kimm a Navy WWI veteran and former cashier of Denver Savings Bank for 25 years is survived by his wife a daughter five grandchildren four great grandchildren two brothers and three sisters. Ferd C. Hackbarth 79 died Friday at home after a stroke related illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Faith United Church of Christ with Rev. E F Puhlmann officiating. Interment followed at Faith United cemetery. He was born November 16 1883 in Stuttgart Germany and came to the U S in 1890. Surviving are Lena wife one daughter Vyola and grandson Ronald plus a brother and sister. Rettig Funeral Home had charge.

Interstate Power plans 490 mile high voltage line
Interstate Power Co and six midwest utilities announced a plan to build a 345000 volt transmission line from the Twin Cities to St. Louis at a cost over 30 million dollars. The line will link Minnesota Iowa and Missouri grids, with completion in 1967 for the northern segment and 1969 for the southern stretch, and transfer up to 500000 kilowatts.

Adult Education Classes Start Monday Evening Tripoli
The first session of adult education classes began Monday at the Tripoli Community School with 95 percent attendance. Superintendent Howard Pigg said no class is full and registrations will be accepted by contacting the school and submitting the fee this week. Offered courses include painting, clothing construction, knitting, welding, typing, cake decorating, and driver education, with Monday evening sessions for the remaining seven weeks.

Bremer county 4-H leaders and staff will join nearly 500 attending the 13th annual Leaders' Recognition Day at Iowa State University Ames on January 28.
