IPC completes street lighting upgrades in the business district with nine new 1000 watt mercury vapor lamps replacing 400 watt units. Two more 1000 watt lamps to be installed near the town hall as poles are set. Fifteen additional 400 watt lamps will be upgraded in fringe areas, five already installed and eight awaiting weather permits. No charge to town. overall monthly cost lowers due to unit price reductions under IPC agreement.

Commercial Club Dinner Meeting Set for Monday Night
The Tripoli Commercial Club will hold its regular dinner meeting Monday January 18 in the town hall. Readlyn Funeral Held for Emil H Thies 56
Emil H Thies of Readlyn died unexpectedly Monday of a heart attack at Readlyn Automation. Born May 1 1914 he lived in the area his whole life working as a farmer and in construction. He is survived by four sisters Mrs Brandt rural Denver Mrs st Brandt Waverly Mrs a Thies Waterloo and Duncan Farron Mason four nieces and nephews and one brother. Funeral services were conducted today at 1 30 pm at St Y s Lutheran Church Read with Rev Fred Meyer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Former Tripoli resident Clara Sorg dies at 86
Committal services for Mrs. Clara Sorg 86 were held Tuesday at Hawkeye Cemetery. She died Sunday at a Cedar Rapids nursing home and is survived by her son Fritz of Marion. The Sorgs once owned a drug store in Tripoli.

About 150 attendees joined the Bremer Dairy Promoters Banquet where Jim Redies presented the 1971 Distinguished Dairyman Award to LaVerne Schumacher Readlyn. Schumacher expanded his Readlyn dairy herd from 49 to over 80 cows and maintained a production record above 500 pounds butterfat per cow. Bob Nance spoke on farming and Hawaii slides. George Burgess served as Master of Ceremonies. New board members elected for two years were Eugene Eick Richard Reynolds LaVerne Schumacher Charles Dewey and Edwin Steinbron. Activities in the first year included a Dairy Banquet Distinguished Dairyman Award Milk Maid Magic Open Dairy Show at the County Fair Dairy Princess and a milk stand at the Pork Producers Barbecue. Wrestling results from 98 to 126 pounds are listed with victors and scores.
