The Tripoli area faced its worst blizzard in years with 16 inch accumulations and drifts up to 10 to 15 feet. High winds closed highways and schools, while residents used snowmobiles as travel remained limited to one lane downtown. Some events were postponed or canceled, including a wrestling meet and a high school basketball game.
Installation services for Pastor Thalacker will be held at John's Lutheran Church field township Denver on Sunday January 10 at 10 a.m. A pot luck dinner follows for members and guests. Pastor H Schiffler who has served the congregation the past three years will give the benediction at the conclusion of services.
Miss Donna M. Lee 45 of Waterloo had graveside services in Fremont cemetery Tripoli. Rev H E Turner of Faith Assembly of God Church Evansdale officiated. Born December 1 1925 in Tripoli to Albert and Minnie Lee she died December 30 in Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo. Surviving: three sisters Mrs Everett Neuendorf Waterloo Mrs Alfred Tegtmeier and Mrs Clifford Buchholz both of Greeley Colorado, two brothers Albert R Webster Wisconsin and Donald Grantsburg Wisconsin.

Theodore Sievers 64 died recently and funeral rites were held Sunday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church Siegel with interment in the church cemetery. Rev Waldemar Gies officiated Rettig Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers included Lloyd Sievers Sam Blasco Dale Krueger Kenneth Sievers Erling Lohmann and Ronald Sievers. He was born April 13 1906 to Tonjes and Elizabeth Sievers and lived in Bremer County Iowa. He worked at Tripoli Plumbing and Heating and had earlier been a carpenter.
Tripoli homemakers group to meet in town hall on Wednesday January 13 at 1 30 PM. Members should bring three birthday cards and a topic idea for the 1971 program. Newly elected officers include Janice Mueller president Wanda Boldt vice president Tamara Rosol secretary treasurer Jana McLavey reporter.
At his home in Tripoli around noon December 31, survivors include two sisters Mrs Anna Slack and Mrs Rose Krueger of Tripoli and five brothers Siebel and Tom of Frederika Bill of Fontana California Herbert and Donald of Tripoli.

Tripoli Panthers open the girls sectional tournament on Monday February 15 at 8 p.m in the Tripoli High gym meeting the winner of the Turkey Valley Fredericksburg game. Denver meets Hudson New Hartford at 6 30 p.m. Semifinals and final are set for Parkersburg February 17 and 20. Ninety six schools advance to district tournament.
Peoples Natural Gas raises rates in 106 Iowa communities on January 18 due to higher wholesale costs. Residential and small business customers will pay 7.73 cents per 1000 cu ft, about $13 more yearly for the typical 168000 cu ft usage. three Bremer county towns Readlyn Sumner and Tripoli are among impacted communities.
The January meeting of the THS music mothers group was canceled. The next gathering is planned for February.
The Tripoli senior citizens will not meet on Wednesday January 6 as announced. The meeting is postponed to Wednesday February 3 and will be held at the usual time and place.

Members must return reply cards by Saturday and appoint proxies if unable to attend. Three directors will be elected for three year terms.
