Raymond H. Fink outlines changes taking effect January 7 with 5¢ letters 8¢ airmail letters 4¢ postal cards and 6¢ air mail cards. Drop letters to Tripoli stay 4¢ and rural carrier mail requires 5¢ stamps. Some first class and third class items rise, with new shape rules and penny top-up for existing 3¢ and 4¢ stamps.
Six individuals were fined in Justice of the Peace J. M. Haydon's court in December. Five were in state cases and one in a town case, totaling $292.00 plus costs. Names include Robert Lee Richmond of Sumner for speeding, $7. John Henry Gall of St. Louis for speeding, $10. Raymond Bloom of Tripoli for shooting two deer with a rifle, $200. Evan Steege of Fredericksburg for illegal tagging of deer, $50. James Lewis Ohm of Lawler for excessive speed, $20. and Roger Benarden of Tripoli for improper driving, $5 in the town case.
Max Ambrose fractured both bones of his right arm Thursday while at the skating rink.
The fall quarter dean's list at Iowa State University includes 546 students with a 3.5+ GPA and at least 15 credit hours. Included from Sumner are Myron J. Poock in sociology and Elaine M. Schwerin in home economics, both listed with parental addresses.
Tripoli High School hosts Wapsie Valley in a conference doubleheader as both Wapsie Valley girls and Tripoli Panthers sit atop the standings at 6-0. Tripoli boys stand 3-3 while Wapsie Valley boys are 5-1. Girls game at 7 pm. other Friday matches include Plainfield at Denver Dunkerton at Janesville and Fredericksburg at Denver.
The State of Iowa Department of Social Welfare released a statistical report for December noting Bremer county old age assistance totaled 13206 dollars to 151 recipients. Grants for aid to dependent children were 3600 dollars with 130 medical allotment. aid to the blind 361 dollars for four persons. disability payments 366 dollars averaging 91.50. Six new old age cases opened. Total expenditures across all departments 17663 dollars. Iowa public assistance statewide 4481353 dollars, up 77145 from prior month. old age 2772882, dependent children 1513787, aid to blind 133642, aid to disabled 61042. Average old age cost per case 91.24, 2.18 higher than prior month due to nursing home care and medical. Calendar 1962 saw about 31.14 million to old age recipients, with 11.4 percent for medical services.
The Bremer County Extension Service schedules an animal nutrition school at Tripoli Town Hall on January 15 21 and 30. Ames ISU specialists Eugene Summers and M D Whitaker join county staff to teach growth production feeds formulas and requirements with sessions from 9 15 a m to 3 30 p m daily. Registration extended to January 10 with a $5 fee covering noon meals handbooks and refreshments.
Richard Schmidt remains admitted at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo as of the latest report. No further medical updates were provided.

David Bolte of Tripoli appeared in George W. Barnes mayor's court during December for an automobile violation. He was found guilty of failure to drive in a careful manner with a $10.00 fine plus costs.
Don Hunemuller of Dubuque and Wesley Welsh of Millville are listed with maternal great grandparents Mr and Mrs Chris Bathke of Sumner in a brief family notice reflecting kinship connections and generations.
Aliens must report to the Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization between January 1 and January 31. Local Postmaster Raymond H. Fink notes the required report card is available at any post office and should be completed and returned to the local post office during January for forwarding to the Commissioner.
Mrs. Will Propp fractured her hip on Tuesday in a fall at her home and was taken to Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo. Mrs. Ella Sell fell on Monday in her home and broke her arm.
Relatives report Al Dana had surgery at the Veterans hospital in Denver on Thursday. His condition remains unchanged.
The 1963 edition of the Farmers Tax Guide is issued by the county extension office. Gene Vincent reports the guide covers farm income tax reports and illustrates handling of income and expenses on forms.
