Denver Scouts Earn Red Flannel Award For Five Mile Hike

Eight Boy Scouts led by Dennis Herrmeyer Greg Bruns and Arden Enrelies hiked five miles to Camp Ingewanis in sunny weather. Fourteen Scouts and one Scout leader later joined, camping overnight as temperatures dropped to zero.

Bremer Bremer County Supervisors Vote To Vacate Multiple Roads

Bremer and Chickasaw county Boards of Supervisors met in Waverly on February 17 to hear road abandonment protests. Roads 1 through 9 11 13 17 19 to 23 were vacated as no objectors appeared. Objects for roads 12 14 18 25 27 filed damages so those proceedings were dropped. Roads 15 16 24 were tabled while roads 10 26 were shortened and road 30 tabled. A Feb 23 reconvening drew about 75 objectors as talks continued.

Crippled Children Clinic Schedule Out for 1965 in Iowa

The Iowa State Services for Crippled Children lists 44 field clinics from March 10 to November 16 with 10 cardiac evaluation clinics. Clinics span the state, offering full examinations by specialists, free of charge, to patients under 21 with chronic or crippling conditions. In Bremer county clinics are set for April 1 and October 7 in Oelwein, with cardiac clinics April 6 in Waverly and September 9 in Waterloo. Dr. John C. MacQueen leads the program as director and University of Iowa pediatrics professor.

Patrol Driver License Examiners Serve 70 Persons Saturday

The Iowa Highway Patrol license examining team served 70 persons in the morning session at Tripoli Town Hall. Licenses issued included two new operators, 43 operator renewals, 10 chauffeur renewals, 4 instruction permits and 5 temporary driving permits. Also recorded were three driving failures and three written instruction permit failures. The team will return to Tripoli Town Hall on Saturday, March 20.

State Trapping Season Closes February Twenty-Eighth

The State Conservation Commission announces the closing date of February 28 for trapping badger, skunk, opossum, beaver, civet cat and raccoon, with raccoon hunting ending the same day. The 1964-65 trapping season is described as relatively good, aided by open fall weather and near normal furbearer populations. Muskrat catches were lower, reflecting a peak in the prior two years. overall muskrat harvest is considered average.

Open House for Denver Sunset Home Unveiled

Special coverage of the Denver Sunset Home dedication and open house held Sunday. Dr. Ernest Stumme cut the ceremonial ribbon with Mayor Wilbur Gielau assisting. Rev. David Johnson spoke on the project's journey from idea to reality. About 1400 visitors toured the facility as staff welcomed first occupants arriving Monday.

Bremer County residents pledge eyes to eye bank

Twenty three Bremer County residents signed donor cards pledging their eyes to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank at the University of Iowa Hospitals for corneal transplants. Gov. Hughes proclaimed Eye Bank week to boost pledges. 299 corneal transplants have been performed nationwide.

Richard Buhr Named To Director Post Of Community Chest

The Tri poli Community Chest annual meeting elected Richard Buhr to a three year term as director. The treasurer's report was approved and funds from the chest drive distributed to welfare, charitable, and recreational groups. The board includes Mrs. L. L. Moeller, Kenneth Freyholtz, Mrs. J. M. Snyder, Melvin Krumm, and Buhr. Howard Holm retired.

Sailor Biermann Participates in VII Fleet Air Strikes

Electrician's Mate Fireman Steven R. Biermann USN son of Mr and Mrs Romane W Biermann of Tripoli participated in retaliatory air strike operations Feb 7 against North Vietnam while serving aboard USS Coral Sea with the U S Seventh Fleet in the South China Sea. Navy aircraft from USS Ranger Coral Sea and Hancock attacked communist barracks near Dong Hai about 100 miles north of the border. Pilots reported heavy fires and substantial damage to military targets.

Denver Doctor Honored as Northeast Iowa Leader

Dr. Ernest H. Stumme of Denver was featured February 15 in the Waterloo Daily Courier series Among Northeast Iowa Leaders. The Courier praised his community work with the Denver Library Sunset Home and other projects, noting he has practiced medicine in Denver since 1937.

Tripoli junior high boys beat Readlyn 38 to 29 in a Friday basketball game. The Tripoli girls were edged 14 to 12 in their matchup at the same event.

Wapsie Valley Senior Takes 4th in State Wrestling Tourney

David Matthias of Fairbank placed fourth in the 145 pound division at the state wrestling tournament in Waterloo. The Wapsie Valley senior had a perfect sectional record and only one district loss en route to the state finals.

Ronald Jon Moeller a senior at Wapsie Valley High School earned honors status at the State University of Iowa Iowa City. About one tenth of freshmen receive this. Honors scholars join special sections and can pursue advanced work toward an honor degree in over 20 majors. Ronald is son of Mr and Mrs Herman Moeller Fairbank.

Band Mothers Group Plans March Meeting

Nashua Triumphs Over Wapsie Valley In Sectional Final

Nashua boys defeated Wapsie Valley 55 to 45 to claim sectional honors in district No. 11 at Wapsie gym. Nashua now 9-7 will face Elkader in first district round at Upper Iowa University gym Fayette at 7:00 tonight. Elkader stands 12-2. Four Nashua players reached double figures as Wapsie Valley had eliminated Tripoli 65-59 in the semi finals Wednesday.

Wapsie Valley Girls Claim Sectional Tournament Title

Wapsie Valley defeated South Winneshiek 80 to 49 to win the sectional title. Mary Jo Rommel led with 35 points, followed by Dorothy Buhr 21 and Connie Gaede 20. Fredericksburg beat Tripoli 45 to 37 in the consolation game.

Pancake Supper To Be Held By Tripoli Boy Scouts

The Tripoli Boy Scouts sponsor a pancake supper at Tripoli Town Hall on Saturday February 27 from 5 30 to 8 00. All you can eat pancakes with sausages and drinks chocolate or white milk or coffee. Admission 50 cents per plate.

Free Pancake Day Draws Nine Hundred in Tripoli

Nine hundred residents attended Tripoli’s free pancake day at Town Hall with strong sponsor support from local businessmen. The event featured sausage, syrup, butter, eggs, and dairy donations from area cooperatives and dairies, and most local businesses took part in cooking and serving.
