Readlyn special report on Mr. and Mrs. Charles Everding’s fifth wedding anniversary celebrated Wednesday evening. Relatives and friends attended with baskets and a late lunch. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Everding, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Everding and families, Tripoli. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bockhaus and families, Tripoli. other local attendees and relatives from Sumner, Waterloo, and nearby areas.
Mrs Minnie Krueger a Tripoli resident for many years died at her son Henrys home in this city on Saturday February 20 from diabetes after a brief illness. Born in Hanover Germany on April 5 1863 she came to America with her husband Henry Krueger and their children settling at a farm near Klinger before moving to Tripoli where he was a cobbler. Surviving are four sons Henry William Herman Fred and three daughters Minnie Brandt Augusta Kuhrt Hulda Babcock and many grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Henrys home and St Peters Evangelical church with interment at Fremont cemetery beside her husband.
Funeral services for Fred W. Rasche 66 longtime Sumner resident were held Tuesday at St John Lutheran Church with Rev C J Mardoff and Rev Langrebe officiating. Rasche born July 2 1866 in Venne Hanover Germany came to Chickasaw county in 1888 and married Minnie Pleggenkuhl August 24 1898. He is survived by his widow a son Elmer Fredericksburg a daughter Mrs Elmer Krob lin Sumner and his elderly mother at the Rasche home.
Basketball fans will see stars of yesterday when Sumner Independent meets a team of former Tripoli high school players at the Tripoli opera house on Monday evening February 29. Local boys have held weekly practices for a tough battle. Readlyn junior high faces Tripoli junior high before the main game.
Charles L. Piegers a longtime resident died at his home early Saturday from a paralytic stroke suffered at midnight He was 71 and had just celebrated his forty second wedding anniversary with wife Fred erika Carstensen Piegers background shows farming life in Readlyn and Fre mont township Surviving are wife daughter in Tripoli son Rudolf four brothers and three grandchildren Funeral services were held Tuesday at St Peters Evangelical church with interment in Evangelical cemetery
William Kirchman 52 lifelong Bremer county resident died at his home in Sumner Iowa from heart disease. Born January 20 1880 he married Mary Pipho May 20 1903. Survived by widow three sons two daughters four brothers three sisters. Services 1:30 p m Thursday at Spring Fountain Lutheran Church with Rev C Born officiating burial in Lutheran cemetery.
R B Eckles of Aplington a Republican candidate for state senator in the Bremer Butler district spent Friday in Tripoli promoting his candidacy for the upcoming primary. Eckles previously served three terms as Butler county state representative. He faces challengers John M Ramsey and H W Stine, fellow Butler county residents.
A birthday supper was held Sunday at the home of Mrs Mary Pries on South Main Street to honor her 66th birthday, with cards and visiting as the main activities and a midnight lunch served. Guests included Mr and Mrs H L Pries, Mr and Mrs Nels Debel and family, Mr and Mrs L C Schmidt, Mrs Marget Holmes and son Louis, Mrs Ray Buchanan, Mrs Dora Schneer, Theodore Debel, and Mr and Mrs Herman Kirchhoff and families. Mrs Clara Claus, also sharing the same birthday, attended.
Bremer county grand jury indicts three former Tripoli State bank officers for obtaining money under false pretenses. FE H. Martin former president John H. Mueller former cashier A G Kampmeier former director face two counts each over 39 000 diverted to Shores Mueller company by misrepresented refunds and stock arrangement. Behrend received 39000 in 1929 with promises of staged repayments and dividends totaling 1170 prior to 1931.
In Frederika special coverage Mr and Mrs Ernest Bahlmann were honored at their home Monday evening to mark their twentieth wedding anniversary. Relatives and friends gathered for visiting games and a later supper. Guests included Mr and Mrs Fred Bremer and many Bahlmann and related families. A purse of money and a keepsake were given as tokens of friendship.
Readlyn special reports the church wedding of Miss Mabel Tiedt and Elmer Schweer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Sunday afternoon. Rev. C Meyer officiated the double ring service with music by Mrs. Fred Strempke and local soloists. The couple, soon to farm near Artesian, received many congratulations from friends at a reception and later a Meyer's hall dinner.
A church wedding at St John’s Lutheran north of Artesian united Miss Elfreda Oehlschlager and Herman H Meyne on Sunday February 14 at 1 30 pm Rev Melcher officiated The bride wore white silk crepe with a chiffon veil and beads Attendants were Esther Luhring and Rosa Rodemeyer Best men were Gerhart Meyne and Henry Oehlschlager A reception followed at the bride’s home Dinner in four courses served by Mrs Rodemeyer Luhring and Hoppenworth The couple will live on the groom’s farm south of Bremer after March 15th
Mrs. Charlotte Harmening, 85, fell on an icy walk near the Lutheran church while en route to a funeral. She broke the right leg above the knee and bruised the right arm. Passersby aided her into a car, and she was moved from her home to her daughter Mrs. Chris Winning’s residence for care. Dr. A E Everett reduced the fracture and she rests as comfortably as possible for her age.
Bremer county farmers may qualify for federal credit to support 1932 crop production. Preference goes to those who failed to raise a normal crop in 1931. Loans cover seed, feed, fuel, oil, and miscellaneous crop costs up to an acre based amount, with a 5 1 4 percent interest rate. A Minneapolis office will handle loans, with county agents distributing forms and forming an advisory committee including a leading banker and two farmers. President Geo W Christopher of the Bremer county farm bureau asked to name committee members.
Buck Creek correspondent reports a 25th wedding anniversary celebration at Mr. and Mrs. Schneider's home. Edwin and Edna Schre der organized the event with relatives and friends gathering for an afternoon and evening of visiting. Numerous Schneider families plus friends from Sumner and local clergy attended.

Matilda Redemann a Tripoli resident since 1874 died February 20 at her daughter Mrs George Brewer s home southeast of Tripoli after two years illness from influenza and complications She was born January 3 1846 near Altoona Pennsylvania one of eleven children married to Philip Redemann M D in 1869 and mother to seven with four sons and a daughter surviving with a son Alfred and a daughter Mrs George Brewer in Tripoli a step son Wm Redemann of Guttenberg and siblings in Guttenberg and Bellevue Funeral at the Brewer home February 24 at 2 00 pm with Rev E F Byers officiating interment Fremont cemetery
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary visited the W H Monson home southeast of town Friday evening to honor Mrs Monson a longtime Auxiliary member. After a pleasant evening they served lunch and presented a gift to Mr and Mrs Monson as he is a Legionaire. The Monson family will move this week to a farm in Fayette county.
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the dwelling on the farm owned by Mrs. L. M. Taylor four miles southwest of Fredericksburg Iowa. The Knapp operated farm was absent at a party when neighbors discovered the blaze around midnight. Neighbors prevented spread to other buildings. the house and contents were a total loss. Insurance will meet part of the loss. William Schultz is confined at home with a severe flu.
