P A McIntyre of Sumner came over Sunday to pick up his daughter Miss Mabel and guests Miss Cholene Boyle and Mrs. Ida Franklin, who were guests at the McIntyre home for the afternoon and evening.

The statement urges patient, cooperative action by depositors while highlighting banks’ solvency and the need to avoid runs. Local mayors are urged to lead communities and preserve financial stability for Bremer County residents and institutions.
Bremer county bankers voted to suspend bank operations for seven days from February 10 to 17 to obtain waivers on deposits. Depositors sign three year waivers on time and savings deposits at 3 percent interest. certificates extend three years. Mayors of county towns declared a concurrent seven day business holiday. Mass meetings and depositor gatherings followed the decision as banks in nearby areas took similar actions.
Mr and Mrs Will Tonne entertained at a birthday party at their home south of town on Tuesday evening February 2 to honor the hostess birthday anniversary. The evening was spent at cards and ended with a midnight lunch.
Tripoli Iowa February 10 1932 Mayor C L McCumber uses city authority to suspend most business from 9 am to 4 pm for seven days due to national economic distress and unrest. Exemptions include groceries meats food drugs coal gasoline public utilities and other necessary or approved operations.
A gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Dietz home in Frederika on Sunday February 7 honored Mrs. Dietz and her brother Robert White of Nashua. Relatives from Nashua and Waterloo joined the celebration with music, visiting, and meals. Cakes were provided by Mrs. Charles White. Attendees included Charles White and family, Lynford White, E L O Rourke party from Waterloo, and O Rourkes from Frederika.
Mr and Mrs L J Smith, longtime community figures, celebrate their sixty four year marriage and Mr Smith’s eighty seventh birthday today. Their children George L Smith of Waterloo, Mrs Harry Strawson of Nashua, Mrs Frank Hatch of Sumner, C H Smith of this city, and Mrs Ruth Husband gather for the dual occasion. daughter Mrs Carrie Shaffler of Chicago cannot attend. Born in Massachusetts and Vermont respectively, they wed February 10 1868 and moved here in 1905 after dairy work including shipping milk to Chicago for over four decades. They remain in generally good health for their ages.
Clarence Shirer, state motor vehicle inspector, reports many vehicles on our highways have delinquent 1991 license plates. Law requires current year licenses to be displayed on all vehicles. Due to December mailing delays, extension to February 5th was granted this year. Penalty for operating without proper license is $100 plus costs. Many licenses lack ink signatures. unsigned licenses are invalid. Trailers under 1000 pounds require a license plate, free from the department, via the county treasurer.

Also present were Mrs William Bang Mrs William Kanter and Mrs Mary Behrend of this city, along with Mr and Mrs Louis Schwartz and son Raymond Mr and Mrs Ford Hackbarth and daughter Viola south of town, and Mr and Mrs H T Lau and Mr and Mrs Fred Schnurstein and daughter Lavera of this city. Cards and visiting followed by a midnight lunch served by the hostess.
Relatives gathered Monday evening February 8 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Kimbal to celebrate Frank Kimbal turning 58. The gathering included cards, visiting, and a midnight supper hosted by the hostess, with attendees listed as G. W. McKeown, Frank Beggerow, John Berlin Sr., Raymond McKeown and son Donald, Herman Schwein and family, J. C. Berlin Jr., and Fred Doepke with their families.
Officials of the American Savings Bank issued a statement early Wednesday morning asserting the bank is in splendid condition entirely solvent perfectly sound and in an excellent position with no borrowed money The action aims to give equal protection to all depositors printed by bank officials
The Bremer County banks that paused business on February 10 did not close due to failure or insolvency. The suspension was for asset conservation and depositor protection, announced by the Bremer County Bankers Association president.
American Legion presents Rainbow of the Rio Grande a two scene musical drama by Frederick B. Ingram Productions Feb 18 19 at the Tripoli Opera House. New York east and Texas west characters include Zazu Ketchum Dorothy Claus Axel Swanson and Dr E C Claus with elaborate costumes and one hundred girls as cowgirls and dancers. Tickets on sale Feb 16. matinee for grade school on Feb 18 with 15 cent admission and a free balloon.
Mr and Mrs LaVern Schmidt entertained relatives at a birthday dinner Sunday February 7 south of town. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Fred Wehling and daughters Margaret and Lillia Harvey Meier Ed Seegers Herman Wehling Oliver Bunger and family H H Schmidt and Darlene Emil Tiedt Eric Ernest Drewis and others. The gathering featured games and visiting followed by a late lunch.
Heavy withdrawals totaling 1.3 million dollars over eight months prompted Bremer county bankers to enact a waiver. Depositors from eleven banks in Bremer and neighboring towns signed to extend time certificates at 3 percent for three years and limit monthly reductions in checking or demand accounts. The accord, dated February 1932, allows bank officers to waive restrictions if conditions warrant, to maintain solvency and confidence.

After cards and visiting, a midnight supper was served.
A county school of instruction for peace officers will be at the court house in Waverly on Thursday February 18. Justices of the peace bankers board of supervisors marshals and county vigilantes are invited. Program starts at 10 with an evening closing. Sheriff Frank Sager of Bremer county urges large attendance from enforcement officers.
Mrs Frederika Drewis turned 77 on Monday February 8. Friends and St Peter's Evangelical Aid sent cards and greetings. She has lived here for years and now resides with her daughter Mrs Fred Bierman north of Frederika after a year of illness.
