Bremer County Supervisors approve a 1972 road program totaling 517000 with projects on Frederika Road and Jamesville-Denver Road. The plan includes resurfacing, grading, bridge work, culvert replacements, and right of way acquisitions across multiple townships.
Paul J. Amlie 63 a former physician in Tripoli died of a heart attack Wednesday at a Rochester hospital after a short stay with his wife a surgical patient. Amlie practiced 40 years in Waverly Tripoli and Blairstown moving in 1955. Survivors include his wife Iva Mishler and several relatives. Burial at Grove Hill Cemetery near Readlyn.
Mrs Anna Slack visiting her daughter Mr and Mrs Sam Blasco in Mission Kansas has been hospitalized there. The Blascos reside at 6433 Haven Dr Mission Kansas 202.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Chapin Mr and Mrs Ruloff Wedeking Mr and Mrs Otto Rieck and Mr and Mrs Herman Banser attended the Christmas party pot luck dinner of the WWI Bar Racks and its Auxiliary held Monday at the VFW home in Waverly. There was also a gift exchange.
Tripoli Community School offers three upcoming opportunities to take the ACT Career Planning Profile on national dates February 26 April 22 and July 15. The 31 percent hour three part assessment links interests to occupation clusters and forecasts performance in vocational and technical programs with a career planning booklet. Mr. Ahrens provides registration materials and information.
The Tripoli Music Mothers announce a bake sale on Saturday December 18 starting at 1 PM at the Tripoli Plumbing and Heating shop. Proceeds support music programs and student activities.
Three hundred sixty children visited Santa Claus in the town hall on Saturday afternoon. They enjoyed free movies and candy treats after the show and shared requests with Santa. He invites the kids to visit again this Saturday with movies starting at 1 30 p.m.
Bremer County 4 H Clubs collect Betty Crocker coupons for the Iowa Kidney Foundation to buy a kidney machine. Area residents are urged to participate by bringing or mailing coupons to the Bremer County Extension Office in Tripoli by Monday December 27.
The Children of Faith United Church of Christ Tripoli will stage a Sunday School Christmas program on Sunday December 19. Kindergartners through seventh graders will perform in the evening program starting at 7 30 p.m.
Tripoli Panthers take first with 84 points at the South Winneshiek tournament. Four champions crown titles: Brian Blasberg 98 pounds Richard Gienau 138 Lloyd Zander 185 Bill Hildebrandt heavyweight. Runner up Carl Zander 155 and consolation winners Ray Gienau 112 Kenny Bergman 145 Kent Harris 167.
Tripoli businesses close their Christmas promotion on Wednesday December 22 with a $450 prize pool. Thirty turkey dinners worth 300 dollars will be drawn, plus a kiddie prize drawing totaling 150 dollars, including a TV set, record player, and transistor radio. Drawings at Ambrose Auto Company.
Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examiners will be at Tri Poli town hall on Saturday December 18 from 8 a.m. to noon. Renewals are issued until noon, but written and driving tests end at 11:00 a.m. The examining team will not return until January 15.
Freshman Paul Garner from Tripoli seeks the 158 pound spot on Northern Iowa’s wrestling squad. Ten of last year’s 11 lettermen return, including five conference champions from UNI’s North Central Conference title team. UNI hosts Moorhead State in the season opener January 10 at 7 30 p.m.
Christmas shoppers are reminded that Tripoli businesses will stay open evenings in the final week before the holiday. Stores will be open until 9:00 p.m. from December 20 to 23 and close at 5:00 p.m. on December 24 to allow attendance at Christmas Eve services.
In semifinals Rich Gienau defeated Nulte 6-0 and then beat Humpal 9-2 in the final. Landt topped Bergman 8-2 in a 145 semifinal with Bergman taking the consolation 4-0. Carl Zander won 7-2 over Mitchell in the 155 semifinal but Costigan won the finals 5-5 and 3-0 after a tied score. Eschweiler beat Harms 8-2 in the 167 semifinal with Harms taking the consolation 2-1. Lloyd Zander pinned Schultz 25-? in the 185 semifinal.
Jurors selected to serve in Bremer County district court for the first quarter of 1972 include multiple lists by city such as Tripoli Sumner Fredericksburg Frederika Janesville Readlyn Denver Plainfield and Waverly with names like Susan Schwarze Virginia Wescott John Fay Marguerite Meggitt Arlyce Schroeder James Butler and Arlene Boeckmann Grand jurors named are Lester Custer Arnold Buhr Art Rieckenberg Barbara Klemp Richard Roach and others. They will report January 7 1972 at the Court House in Waverly under Judge C H Wild.
Turkey Valley claimed two victories Friday night as the TV girls won 70-63 and the boys edged the Panthers 59-43. Pantherette coach Dave Van Ahn praised his team’s comeback effort and noted Jackie Boeckman’s standout defense limiting TV’s top scorer to 10 points below average.
The Student Council invites all to a Christmas dance at the elementary gym Saturday evening December 18 from 8 to 11. Music by Nichol. All are welcome to attend.
