Thieves triggered four separate break-ins across Tripoli area schools, using a gas torch to access vaults and offices. Cash and checks totaling hundreds to thousands of dollars were taken and a blaze was started but extinguished. no dynamite was used. Authorities from Bremer County sheriff and CB I are handling the investigation.
In an officer election held on November 8, the Mivoli Fire Department re elected all current officers for a one year term. Sie Dettmer was re elected as chief, Jim Bloek as first assistant, Bergmann as second assistant, Struck as secretary, and Lll Rettig as treasurer.
The Tripoli Community School elementary band under Earle W. Dickinson performs its first concert of the year on Monday December 15 at 7 30 p m. The program includes Three Chorales for Christmas A Christmas Parade and We Three Kings with free admission and public invitation.
Mr and Mrs Paul Judisch took Mrs Bert Beck to Iowa City on Monday for a weeklong stay for treatment at the University hospital.
Funeral services for Ida Buls age 88 were conducted Sunday in Faith United Church of Christ Tripoli with Rev Keith Selberg officiating. Interment followed in Faith Church cemetery. Casket bearers were Carl Schwemm Henry Schwemm Ray Downing H C Rogge W H Bockhaus and Lloyd Bull. She was born August 5 1881 to Joachim and Minnie Schwemm and lived in the Tripoli area most of her life later moving to Bartels Home in Waverly. She died December 4 at Bartels Home. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters four brothers and husband William in 1934.
Funeral services for Bertha Albrecht 86 were conducted Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church Frederika with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Harry Feistner presided as pallbearers included Darrell Albrecht James Albrecht Duane Wendt Charles Mueller Kenneth Stedman Jr Robert Stedman. She was born January 17 1883 in Maxfield Township Bremer County daughter of Fred and Caroline Stolte. She married Otto Wendt in 1903 in Frederika. he died in 1906. In 1908 she wed John Albrecht. They farmed Readlyn and Pinhook areas before moving to Frederika 1951, later residing at Sunset Home Denver. Survivors: four sons August Wendt Lorenz Albrecht Edgar John Albrecht. three daughters Mrs Alfred Nuss Mrs Dale Mueller Mrs Kenneth Stedman. 21 grandchildren 40 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Preceded by husband John in 1961 and son Otto a year earlier.
Mark J. Buls of Frederika Iowa was promoted to Army specialist four on November 11 in Vietnam. He serves with the 45th Engineer Group and is assigned to Headquarters Company of the group's 14th Engineer Battalion.
Tripoli merchants will announce the first fifteen winners on Saturday December 13 at 3 00 p m in participating businesses. Winners must claim prizes in person within fifteen minutes at the town hall to receive a turkey dinner. Unclaimed dinners go to a second drawing with more prizes including a Westinghouse dishwasher and 550 dollars in merchandise.
Funeral services for Larry Poock age 33 were held in Decorah High School with interment at Phelps Cemetery. A Tripoli native and 1954 UNI graduate, Poock played baseball at Tripoli High and UNI, coached at Decorah High for ten years, served as Athletic Director for three, and was a noted football and wrestling official. Survivors include his widow, three children, his parents, a sister in Seattle, and two brothers in Tripoli and Tempe.
Two car collision on the Plum Creek bridge near Tripoli tied up highway 93 last Saturday night. Mitchell Grahlmann twenty of rural Sumner is in serious condition at Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo. passenger Daryl Copp nineteen of Hawkeye also hurt. Wayne Brown thirty of Jesup and his passengers Grace Brown and David Williams were treated at Sumner hospital.
The Tripoli post office lobby will remain open on Saturdays December 13 and 20 to serve Christmas shoppers. Window hours stay 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on these Saturdays with a normal 12:30 p.m. closing resuming December 27.
Mrs Victor Kelsey entered Baptist hospital in Rochester on Tuesday for observation.
Mrs Gladys Huck of rural Sumner was hospitalized at Scholtz Hospital in Waterloo on Monday and remains there under care.
Tripoli High varsity wrestlers won three pins and outscored Denver 33-11 on Tuesday night led by Vern Walther and Merlyn Walther. The meet featured key wins for Steve Blasberg and Richard Gienau with multiple weight class results. The junior varsity edged the meet earlier and Tripoli faces Independence and upcoming December tournaments.
The Woman's Club meets Wednesday night December 17 at 7 30 in the Town Hall for a Christmas program. Mrs Les Lauck discusses Communication In Religion. Attendees bring gifts for the Nursing Home and remembrances for County Home residents. Hostesses are Mrs E W Kirchhoff and Mrs David West.
Donna Sauerbrei of the State Fair Insurance team bowled a 647 series at Tripoli Bowl with games of 183 222 and 242 securing a new league high. The prior record was 633 set on November 19 1964 by Carla Bremer now Mrs Allan Bock of Sumner.
The 1969 Tripoli Community Chest exceeded its $2,125 goal, reaching $2,173.72 on deposit at American Savings Bank. Campaign chairman Walter Steward thanks workers and donors and invites late contributions until year-end at the bank. J. C. Hassman of Frederika marked 25 years with Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company during a December 4 award ceremony in Waterloo.
The Tripoli Panthers lost home and away at Wapsie Valley, with the girls 80-53 and the boys 49-48. Coach Dave Van Ahn criticized effort in a game the Panthers could not recover from a poor first and third quarter.
Coach Ray notes defense kept games close but offense struggled. Panthers shot 29 percent vs Wapsie and 23 percent vs Sumner, saying strong defense and hustle prevented a blowout. Continuous coverage continues on page six.
Horse sale scheduled for Saturday December 13 starting at 3 00 p m at Tripoli Feed and Livestock. The event lists Jorse as the involved lot and attracts local buyers to the sale in Tripoli.
