Ambulance Service Town Set to Launch in Tripoli

Tripoli will start up an ambulance service Sunday December 15 with nine drivers formed into on call 24 hour teams. The volunteers plan to visit area hospitals to acquaint staff with the emergency system and the police call number will remain in use.

Wayne Miller Injured in Line Mishap at Pole

Wayne Miller manager of Butler Bremer Telephone Co Plainfield was hospitalized at Charles City hospital after a line broke at ground level. He suffered a compound fracture of the right leg above the knee and may be out for about a month. He is at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City Iowa Room 236.

Emergency number hooked to five phones on Tripoli exchange

The town plans a separate emergency line linked to five phones on the Tripoli exchange. Currently two phones operate simultaneously, but all five will be active soon, allowing immediate ringing when the number is dialed.

Merchants Promote Christmas Drawings for $300 in Trade Dollars

Tripoli merchants announce a three draw Christmas promotion offering a total of 300 in trade dollars redeemable at participating shops. Drawings happen December 7 14 and 21 with prizes for multiple winners. Registration closes at 2 25 p m on drawing days and tickets must be delivered to Ambrose Auto Co. Bicycle Safety Program At Tripoli Elementary

A bicycle safety program for grades 2 through 6 at Tripoli Community schools on November 22 featured Tripoli Police Chief Pat Brogan and Iowa Highway Patrolman Wayne Loder. They stressed hand signals stop signs reflectors lights and bicycle bus safety. Two films were shown and a future bicycle safety check by a local group is planned for spring after near mishaps prompted the event.

4 H Leaders to Be Honored Here Saturday

Bremer county 4-H leaders will be honored at the annual leaders banquet on Saturday December 7. Four leaders will receive silver clovers for five years of service while one will get a pearl clover for 15 years. Two former 4-H members will receive alumni awards. The event is planned by Bremer county 4-H officers and Extension staff with clubs sponsoring the banquet in recognition of leader contributions.

Shotgun Season on Deer Opens Saturday in Iowa

Iowa hunters may chase deer December 7 8 and 9 with 10 to 20 gauge shotguns using rifle slugs or flintlock muskets of .45 to .776 caliber. Bag limit is one deer and the entire state is open. Hunters must wear blaze orange for safety.

Funeral Services Today for Hildegard Koepke in Denver

Funeral services for Hildegard C. Koepke 75 longtime Denver resident were held at St. Peter Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. She died Sunday night in Waterloo after a week’s hospitalization. Born March 29 1893 in Bremer County she married Herman Koepke in 1916 who died in 1960. Surviving are three daughters six grandchildren and several siblings.

Tripoli Panthers rout Hudson in wrestling with 53 to 5 win

Tripoli varsity wrestling remained undefeated with a 53 5 victory over Hudson last Wednesday. The Panthers had seven pins and three forfeits, name by name results for weights from 95 to heavyweight and coach John Samuelson praised the team while noting upcoming tests on December 4 6 and 10 against Clerksville Independence and Turkey Valley respectively.

Tripoli Panthers Rout Orange Boys In Non-Conference Showdown

The Tripoli Panthers defeated Orange township 100 to 62 in a Tuesday non conference exhibition. The home team shot 60 percent from the floor and 66 percent at the free throw line. Rick Wittenburg led all scorers with 32 points as coach Ray praised the offense but noted too many fouls and lax defense on the boards.

University of Iowa wrestler earns 191 pound co championship

Paul A Zander stayed at the Arnold Zander home after returning from a wrestling tournament at the University of Minnesota. The open competition featured teams Ball State Mankato State Minnesota Minnesota Northern Iowa and Iowa. Zander and Verlyn Streliener Tama were co champions at 191 pounds. Both are University of Iowa wrestlers.

Tripoli school officials set an earlier start for the annual elementary Christmas program at the high gymnasium. The event will begin at 7 30 p m instead of 8 00 p m to avoid late hours for younger children.
