Tripoli defeated Readlyn 2 to 0 in a Cedar Valley league game at Readyn. Krueger held Readlyn to one hit, while Bockhaus delivered the decisive RBI single as Belknap and Duecker scored on a misplay. Simpson saved eight chances in the field and Diekman’s liner was snagged by Simpson in the ninth.
In a free slugfest at Nashua Waverly edged Nashua 9 to 8 to stay atop the Cedar Valley league. The game featured five runs in the fifth to erase Nashua’s four-run lead and a late Waverly rally over the final three innings. Ramage Theis Graham Wilson Strike were the batteries.
Shell Rock forfeited after Sumner defeated them 6 to 3 on the field but the home team Sumner 9 to 0 due to two ineligible players. Conrad and Able hit homers. Savage and Berg had three hits each. Batteries Bulgren and Wilharm for Shell Rock with Bellis and Gambaiani for Sumner.
Harold Bierie and Paul Buenzow have bought Carl Eichmanns lot and residence opposite the Leaders office. The site will host a filling station with work to start in about a week.
Bremer area fans cast over 1000 ballots to select a Cedar Valley league all star squad to meet the Texas Black Spiders at the 4 H club event Wednesday afternoon. The 12 players include Ramige Waverly Thies Waverly as pitchers Smalling Waverly Graham Waverly as catchers Flood Waverly Thran Readlyn Leyh Sum ner Webster Waverly as infielders Emery Shell Rock Judisch Waverly Belk nap Tripoli as outfielders. Stanley Gehrke Readlyn named utility. Other top vote getters include Bellis Gambaiani Chandler Nashua Dick man Simpson Spier Abel Strumple.
The Eichmann family and guests from Rockford Illinois met in Charles City at the city park for a second annual reunion with a picnic dinner and afternoon visiting. Attendees included Will Eichmann family members, Goodenbour, Jacobson, Hagenow, Smeby, Ladd, and others from Tripoli Readlyn Coggan Pecatonica Minneapolis Cedar Falls and Minneapolis. Bertha Lewis and C H Eichmann later traveled to Minneapolis on business.
The Bremer County farm debt advisory committee, appointed by Governor Herring with federal support, offers free aid to farmers in distress over mortgages and debts. M. L. Rowan warns against signing deeds or warrants of possession and urges seeking help to adjust indebtedness and obtain Federal Land Bank loans. Regular meetings inform farmers of local committee memberships and services available to prevent dispossession.
Tripoli won both ends of a Sunday park doubleheader against Denver. The opener ended 7 to 0 with a shutout by Tripoli, and the second game finished 10 to 8.
Friends gathered Sunday evening and Monday to honor Mrs. F. H. Bockhaus on her birthday August 20. Martin's funeral Friday, including Ed Mueller, Mrs. H. W. Bockhaus, Chauncey Cedar Rapids, Dr. E. H. Kramer, Mrs. Leo Stenzel Waverly, Mrs. William Kramer Allison, F. C. Oltrogge, and Emma Hill Waterloo.
Bremer county 4-H fair opens today at Waverly fair grounds August 22 to 24 with prizes totaling over 4000 dollars. Livestock classes include prime market dogs open to Bremer county and first tier townships. Dairy cows with high C T A records highlight the event with 60 percent of awards based on production and 40 percent on individuality. Other departments feature poultry beef alfalfa and soybean shows plus corn small grain vegetables and fruit exhibits.
The Block relatives held their annual reunion Sunday August 19 at Fred Block’s home south of Tripoli. A large turnout enjoyed a picnic dinner and supper with entertainment including croquet and kitten ball. Bremer county leads Iowa in old age pension tax payments with 87.37 percent of its 10,388 taxable citizens having paid by August 15, totaling 8,770 dollars. Butler county follows with 81.39 percent from 9,828 taxpayers, amounting to 7,999 dollars.

Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Mooney and their daughter Verla from Oelwein visit Mrs. F. H. Harmening in the company of Mrs. Louise Boderman. They later travel to Waverly to see Mrs. Mary Mooney, the mother of Mr. Mooney.
Mrs. Rudolph Albright was taken to Rochester Minnesota for examination at the Mayo clinic after swallowing a fragment of a broken china cup. A surgical procedure removed an inch long by half inch wide piece from her throat and she returned home by week’s end in good condition.
Funeral directors from Butler Bremer and Fayette counties and part of Black Hawk county attended a gathering here last Thursday with thirty establishments represented. A six o’clock dinner at Uptown cafe preceded a business meeting at Fortner hotel where Leonard Racker delivered the principal address on The Value of Man.
Henry Meyer narrowly escaped serious injury after a fall into a corn chute at the Marshall Canning plant, suffocating briefly before rescue. Waverly public schools open Sept 3 with three new high school instructors: Moen, Mahlum, and Martin. A Pension Board meeting occurred in Waterloo on Aug 20. Isabel Driscoll visits from Cincinnati. Rotary Club picnic hosted by the Waterloo Rotary Reserve featured games and entertainment. Fern Blodget leaves Independence hospital for home care. William Stuffelbeam seeks care at Iowa City hospital. John Krause, son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Krause, had tonsils and adenoids removed. Lloyd McDowell and son Jack likewise had tonsil surgery. Dillon Hall resigns from Schell Grocery to join Montana States Power Co in Kalispell. William Schoof to replace him. Four-year-old Coffman boy fractures a leg from a fall from a box. Mrs Susan Hazlett visits Des Moines. Mrs Ester Harmon travels to Elk City Oregon then Long Beach California. Miss Gladys Stieger appointed Jasper county nurse, based in Newton. graduate of Lutheran Hospital Hampton. E A Sager improving at home.
