Bremer Fair runs Friday to Sunday with more than $1000 in prizes. Exhibits judged over three days with cash awards and a three dollar prize to the world’s fair winner. The event includes a Bremer amateur talent show and midway attractions. Bowler meetings announced with Women’s Bowling Association gathering Tuesday at Tripoli Bowl.
The Wapsie Sportsmen Club 18th annual fish fry at Tripoli South Park drew more than 2,700 attendees Sunday, with 2,379 paid admissions and an estimated 325 children under school age served free. Final tallies exceed 1962 and prior years, as 1,600 pounds of walleye fillets and vast quantities of biscuits, cabbage, pickles, milk and other supplies fed the crowd.
Ground breaking for the Faith United Church of Christ education unit takes place Sunday morning west of the church building with a 7:45 worship service. Moeller Construction Co. of Tripoli is contractor, Youngs of Oelwein handles plumbing and heating, Hurmence Electric of Tripoli does electrical work. The existing school house will move to the northwest corner of the lot and will be used until the new unit is finished, planned for spring 1966. Rev. E F Puhlmann is pastor.
Festina nips Tripoli 5-3 as Fayette breaks a ninth inning tie scoring Tuns on two hits to clinch the victory. The win puts Fayette in a share of the Heart Iowa league title with New Hampton two games back with two left in the season. League schedule lists Atkinson at Law Festina at Tripoli and Newton at Fayette.
Mrs Elmer Sassmann 63 died Thursday heart attack at her farm near Tripoli. Final rites held Sunday at St John Lutheran Crane Creek with Rev Geo J Gundel officiating and burial in church cemetery. Survivors include husband son Marvin and daughters Esther Thurm and Marian. Burial conducted by Rettig Funeral Home Tri poli.
The office of Dr. L. J. Magnal will be closed from August 1 to August 15. Patients are advised to schedule appointments accordingly and contact for emergencies.
The big winner is Mrs. Carl Buenger of Tripoli who receives a free four person vacation at the Tee Pee Tonka Resort in Black Duck Minnesota plus 50 dollars for expenses. Second and third prizes include savings bonds going to Harvey Schwartz Clarksville and Lawrence Heine Waverly with 25 and 50 dollar values respectively.
The event awarded over 275 door prizes totaling more than $500 in value. Prizes were donated by Tripoli area businesses and national sporting goods makers. Pre draw entertainment came from the Little German band, a staple since 1947. Photographs capture fryers at work, the serving line, filleting and dusting, the eating area, and servers including Woodrow Klemp and Bert Bock serving walleye fillets to attendees.
An open meeting is set for Monday Aug 9 at 8 p m in Tripoli Town Hall to discuss forming a Jaycee chapter. Eligible members are men ages 21 to 35 from Tripoli and surrounding areas. Local organizers will seek a strong turnout and state and local Jaycee leaders will attend.
Men bowlers are needed 30 new or experienced to form a league. Interested individuals should contact La vern Tegtmeier Robert Meyer or Duane Holm.
Mrs Ralph Fritz a Denver Community School lunch cook, returned July 23 from a week long school lunch short course at Iowa State University Ames. Ninety one cooks from across the state attended. She studied menu planning sanitation storage practices record keeping equipment and community relations. The course was sponsored by Iowa State University institution management and the Town school lunch division of the department of public instruction.
Grace Lutheran church schedules a meeting on Tuesday August 10 at 8 pm to extend a call for a new pastor. Rev Arnold Thalacker has accepted a call to Salem Lutheran church West St Paul. Iowa District president Dr H W Siefkes will conduct the meeting and present candidates. Church council meets at 7 pm with the district president.
Tripoli Community Schools announce pre school registration on Monday and Tuesday August 16 and 17 to allow early completion of details and smoother first day scheduling. High school students in grades 9 to 12 should visit the high school secretary's office to pay fees and pick up schedules, with further help from the principal if needed.
The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4013 in Tripoli sponsors a chicken supper on Thursday August 12 at the Post Home. Serving hours are 5:30 to 8:00 with a menu of country fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, peas and carrots, rolls and dessert. Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children under 12.
Denver residents will go to the polls Tuesday for a special election on a $77,000 bond issue to finance a 200,000 gallon elevated water storage tower east of the high school. The town, nearing 1,000 in population, faces fire and daily needs with current capacity and may see insurance rate changes if ratings shift.

The Frederika WSCS sponsored flower show held July 27 at the Methodist church announced sweepstakes winners John Klein of Sumner in the adult division and Mary Jo Burrow in the children’s division. Multiple category prizes rewarded entries from Lorenz Bunger to Edna Burmaster and Hazel Ager, with best arrangements and plant categories across glads roses, dahlias, zinnias and house plants.
Greg McGinn of Waverly is chosen as one of 26 Iowa 4-H boys to join the Farm Youth Tour August 30 to September 3. Sponsored by the Iowa Development Commission, the program links farming with manufacturing and visits Iowa industries and farms to aid career exploration in farming and related fields. Two tours run in east central and southeast Iowa, with about 35 rural youths per tour. Representatives from FFA, Farm Bureau and other groups accompany the youths.
Denver Special report states the Denver Community School board adopted a budget on August 2 at 8 09 p m. The general fund requires 233 199 00 in tax-levied revenues, with total tax levy 278 055 00. The coming year's total budget is 346 465 00, with state aid for transportation and general aid as the district's major income. An additional amount for a new elementary addition will be assessed in 1967 before final budget approval.
The W W I Barracks and Auxiliary will meet Wednesday evening August 11 at the State Bank in Waverly. The gathering aims to discuss unit matters and plan community projects.
