The council opened bids for the new library project with a total bid of 46,050, higher than the architect’s estimate by 4,660. Contracts awarded: general construction to Stolz Construction Inc, Ramaker Construction Inc, Zitterell Mills Co Inc, and Marshall J Reichert. plumbing to Young Plumbing and Heating Waterlo o. electrical to Hurmence Electric Tripoli. Unsuccessful bids were Young's Oelwein Fere days and Johnston Sheet Metal. The library will hold 10,110 volumes in 3,080 square feet, replacing the Town Hall facility with 8,445 volumes.

THS Senior Competes In Iowa Industrial Arts Fair
Richard Juel, a THS senior and son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Juel of Sumner, entered a go kart in the seventh annual Iowa Industrial Arts Fair at UNI Cedar Falls on May 11. The welded steel frame kart features a 45 inch wheelbase, 95 inch width, pneumatic tires, roller chain drive, a 2.5 horsepower 2 cycle Clinton engine and semi disc brakes.

Funeral Rites Held At Readlyn for Bertha Thurm
Bertha Thurm 73 of Readlyn died Wednesday at Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo after admission. Funeral services were Saturday at Zion Lutheran church Readlyn with burial in the church cemetery. She was born June 27 1894 in Bremer county daughter of Fred and Louisa Wilkening Schner and married John T Thurm Sept 5 1912 at Immanuel Lutheran Klingor. Surviving are her husband one son Erwin Sumner one daughter Mrs Paul Esther Wolfgram Waterloo 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by son Roy grandson Delbert and brother Louis Schweer.

Easter Ham Drawing Attracts Large Tripoli Crowd
Easter weekend event drew 460 children to the Tripoli merchants for an Easter ham drawing and prize hunt. Winners included Perry Gaede Amanda Lohmann and Barbara Shires among twenty lucky hams. about 135 prizes were handed out with many kids receiving treats.
