Bremer County plans free calcium chloride dust control on rural roads for residents who contact the county engineer by May 15. Two applications, about June 20 and late August, will cover 500 feet each at $40 per 500 feet plus 8c per extra foot for wider areas. About one ton of material per 500 feet. moisture retention cuts dust up to 90 percent and calcium chloride is not more corrosive than water. Last year 55 residents used the service.
Tripoli’s livestock firm formerly known as Tripoli Livestock Auction was sold to Larry Hanson effective April 1. The business is renamed Tripoli Feed and Livestock and will trade in all livestock daily without consignment sales. Rath feeds and Hawkeye seed will continue. An open house is set for Friday April 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with free coffee and Rathham sandwiches.

Christus, a Mendelssohn passion cantata, will be performed by the Tripoli Community Chorus on Wednesday evening April 10 at 8:00 at Grace Lutheran Church. Chorus of 40 from local congregations, with baritone soloist Gayl Westendorf and narrator Kermit Hildahl, under director Margaret Smothers. Cathy Hurmence featured as piano soloist. free will offering to cover expenses. public invited.
The State Services for Crippled Children will hold a diagnostic clinic at First Presbyterian church in Oelwein on April 18 for crippled children under 21 from Allamakee Black Hawk Bremer Buchanan Butler Clayton Delaware Fayette Linn and Winneshiek counties. No exam fee. Referral required.
Maurice Baringer, 46, of Oelwein, joins the Republican primary for state treasurer. A former outstanding House legislator, he is secretary treasurer of a feed equipment firm, has an MS from Iowa State, WWII veteran, and active with the American Legion Elks Lions Farm Bureau and Presbyterian church with college teaching roles. Dr John MacQueen is noted as SSCC director and University of Iowa associate dean.
TARI directors reported 175 memberships pledged for a swimming pool and golf course project and expect 75 more pledges in weeks. The $10 deposit credits $100 membership shares with $90 payable as needed. Members may mail applications to G. R. Tripoli high school hosts its annual swing show in the auditorium on Friday and Saturday April 5 and 6 starting at 8:00 PM. Titled Dimensions 68 the program features songs from the roaring twenties to modern pop. Coffee and soft drinks are sold during intermission and before and after. Tables will be available on a first come basis. remaining attendees sit in bleachers. Admission is charged.

Harold Miller came home Thursday from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after an eight day stay as a patient.
