Fire Guts Angola Shops in Three Alarm Blaze
A three alarm fire gutted the Angola Dress Shop owned by Mrs Muriel Smalley and Kiddy Korner run by Mrs Ruth Wilson. The blaze began around 7 PM Wednesday on West Maumee Street and drew in Angola Fremont Pleasant Lake fire departments along with state police and local police. Volunteers battled heavy smoke and water in freezing conditions, containing the flames to the dress shop section as crowds watched. One firefighter, Mort Meek, was overcome by smoke and treated at Camera Hospital. ambulance volunteers stayed on scene until danger passed.
