Prisoner handling outlined for Hobson men at Seavey’s Island and officers at Fort Warren. Plans discussed to raise wrecked Spanish ships Cristobal Colon and others for possible integration into the U S Navy.

Naval experts say Cervera might have escaped east

Port Antonio Jamaica July 7. Admiral Cervera consulted officers before sailing from Santiago de Cuba harbor. By a small majority the move to westward was agreed, with Manzanillo Cienfuegos or Havana as targets. Eastward was avoided due to a large transport fleet sighting and a convoy still with transports.

Despatches From Cuba and Key West On War Wounds

Cablegrams from Siboney Cuba report five hundred wounded arriving since Friday with inadequate hospital space and Texas aiding refugees at Siboney before sailing to Guantanamo. A separate dispatch details mutiny and firing on Spanish prisoners aboard the Harvard after the Maria Teresa’s destruction. Key West health authorities permit landing of wounded from the Iroquois, with most injured from Friday’s first day battle and expected readiness for duty in a month or six weeks.

Destruction of Spanish Fleet and Hobson Surrender

Special to Daily Eagle reports Spanish losses in the Santiago fleet destruction totaling 1,200 killed and 1,500 captured against one killed and two wounded on the American side. Hobson and seven seamen surrendered to Spanish authorities and were escorted to American lines amid cheering by U S troops.
