Intersting Details From Santiago Camp Life Adventure Letter
A soldier's July 27 letter from Ellsworth near Santiago describes camp life three miles from Aguadores with the 33rd Brigade. He details shelters, water shortages, malaria, and rough war memories including spies, a surgeon shot, and a 60-foot drop from a palm. He notes rations, prices, and plans to return home. Near Santiago July 31 he mentions scarce writing material, passes, and a glimpse of Hobson’s release, plus malaria touches and town trips.
